إنجليزي. Water is the natural element necessary for the irrigation of agricultural lands. Up to 1960, two irrigation models were functioning in the irrigated plains of the Órbigo river: the traditional system consisting of flooding fields with water from the river through a network of irrigation ditches, and the waterwheel- based system that functioned from 1900 to 1960. The water from the river was always property of the Administration (king, feudal lords, church or municipal council), while the water drawn by the waterwheels was owned and controlled by the members of the so-called «waterwheel societies».

Dos modelos de irrigación han estado presentes en la ribera del Órbigo hasta 1960: uno tradicional, consistente en inundar las fincas con agua derivada del río mediante un sistema de acequias y las norias que tuvieron una vida de unos 60 años (1900-1960). El agua del río siempre fue propiedad de la Administración (corona, señores feudales, iglesia y concejo) y la de la noria lo fue de los socios que componían cada sociedad concreta de noria.
