CRM [coastal resource management] planning of Rapu-Rapu, Albay, Philippines: lessons and prospects

The coastal resource management planning of Rapu-Rapu [Albay, Philippines] was carried out through an expanded participatory coastal use and zoning mapping to gather information regarding the priority of the stakeholders of the municipal waters of Rapu-Rapu, Albay. The coastal use and area zone map identified existing use and proposed coastal area zoning of the municipal water to promote environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, tourism attraction and sustainable livelihood. While stakeholders were able to point out of issues and concerns on their coastal areas and resources, they were also able to establish goals to be achieved, indicated approaches which will begin to integrate the needed actions into a holistic management framework, and defined institutional functions and co-management systems for coastal resources management implementation. Further, this study was able to analyze and describe the stakeholders' institutional assessment in coastal resources management plan implementation of their LGU. Stakeholders recognized that coastal area zoning as an effective tool in prioritizing resources use and resolve coastal resources management conflicts in the municipality.
