ARBRE Network - Better integration of biodiversity issues on farms: the value of multi-stakeholder support | Réseau ARBRE - Mieux intégrer les enjeux de biodiversité dans les exploitations agricoles : intérêt d’un accompagnement à plusieurs voix

In Maine-et-Loire, a partnership involving an agricultural extension service, a hunting organisation, an environmental protection organisation and an institute for higher education in agriculture has been working for more than ten years to better reconcile agricultural production and the preservation of biodiversity. Unique in France, the ARBRE network (Farming with respect for biodiversity and the environment) brings together volunteer farmers to integrate biodiversity into the functioning of their farms through the conservation, development and management of habitats. Through several personal accounts from involved stakeholders, this article presents the keys to success of this network, which today federates one hundred and sixty-five farms spread throughout the county.

En Maine-et-Loire, un partenariat Chambre d’agriculture, Fédération de chasse, Centre permanent d’initiative pour l’environnement, École supérieure d’agricultures et Conseil départemental agit depuis plus de dix ans en faveur d’une meilleure conciliation entre production agricole et préservation de la biodiversité. Unique en France, le réseau ARBRE (Agriculteurs respectueux de la biodiversité et des richesses de l’environnement) réunit des agriculteurs volontaires pour intégrer la biodiversité dans le fonctionnement de leur exploitation par la conservation, l’aménagement et la gestion des habitats. À travers plusieurs témoignages des acteurs partenaires, cet article présente les clefs de réussite de ce réseau qui fédère aujourd’hui cent-soixante-cinq exploitations agricoles réparties sur tout le département.
