Financing for the promotion of low-emission hydrogen projects: Contrasts in Argentina and Chile | El financiamiento para el impulso de proyectos de hidrógeno bajo en emisiones: contrastes en Argentina y Chile

The development of the green hydrogen market represents a key opportunity for countries such as Argentina and Chile, not only because of its economic impact, as a source of foreign currency and environmental impact, due to the reduction of carbon emissions, but also as a driver of national sustainable development. Financing in this type of emerging markets is essential due to the existence of high risks and uncertainty. In this sense, this work focuses on exploring the financing programs to develop the low-emission hydrogen market in two countries in the southern cone: Argentina and Chile. It will seek to highlight the successes and obstacles of current programs to promote the productive development of low-emission hydrogen (green, pink or blue) as a vehicle for the energy transition in Argentina and Chile. The contribution of the article to the area is the critical and systemic approach to the current situation of the green hydrogen market, in particular on the dimension of the availability of financing, being a strategic industry for the energy transition and the approach to climate change at an international level.

El desarrollo del mercado de hidrógeno verde representa una oportunidad clave para países como Argentina y Chile, no solo por su impacto económico, como fuente de divisas, y ambiental, por la reducción de emisiones de carbono, sino también como un motor de desarrollo sostenible nacional. El financiamiento en este tipo de mercados emergentes es fundamental por la existencia de altos riesgos e incertidumbre. En este sentido, este trabajo se aboca a explorar los programas de financiamiento para desarrollar el mercado de hidrógeno bajo en emisiones en dos países del cono sur: Argentina y Chile. Se buscará destacar los aciertos y obstáculos de los programas actuales para potenciar el desarrollo productivo del hidrógeno de bajas emisiones (verde, rosa o azul) como un vehículo para la transición energética en Argentina y Chile. El aporte del artículo al área es el abordaje crítico y sistémico de la situación actual del mercado de hidrógeno verde, en particular sobre la dimensión de la disponibilidad de financiamiento, siendo una industria estratégica para la transición energética y el abordaje del cambio climático a nivel internacional.
