Tumors represent one of the main causes of death in dogs, and the improvement in health and well-being increases the number of senile canines and more susceptible to the development of neoplasms. Nationally, epidemiological studies indicate that the most frequent neoplasms in dogs and cats are cutaneous, followed by mammary tumors, hematopoietic neoplasms, oropharyngeal tumors and transmissible venereal tumor. The objectives of this study are: to analyze the frequency and epidemiological aspects of the most frequent types of cancer diagnosed at the Animal Pathology Laboratory (LPA) of the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia (HOVET-UFU) from 2012 to 2020; determine possible predisposing factors (gender, race and age) to the occurrence of these cancers in dogs from Uberlândia and region; and to explore possible risk factors involved in carcinogenesis in this population. As for the classification, the dogs were divided by gender (male – 23.79%; female – 74.78%), age (young: < 1 year, 0.30%; adults: 1 to 7 years, 14.88 %; elderly: > 7 years, 67.89%) and race (no defined race - 48.87%; defined race - 48.61%). There were animals that did not have records regarding sex, age and breed. Older dogs and Poodle, Pinscher and Dachshund breeds had a higher frequency of cancer. The Chi-Square test indicated a higher occurrence of cutaneous tumors in American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, Labrador Retriever, Rottweiler, Schnauzer and Shih Tzu breeds and non-cutaneous tumors in Poodle and Yorkshire Terrier and mixed breed dogs. The most affected tissue was the mammary gland (43.63%), integumentary system (37.54%) and other systems (17.20%).

Os tumores representam uma das principais causas de morte em cães, sendo que a melhoria nas condições de saúde e bem-estar eleva o número de caninos senis e mais suscetíveis ao desenvolvimento de neoplasias. Nacionalmente, estudos epidemiológicos indicam que as neoplasias mais frequentes em cães e gatos são as cutâneas, seguido por tumores mamários, neoplasias hematopoiéticas, tumores orofaríngeos e tumor venéreo transmissível. Os objetivos deste estudo são: analisar a frequência e os aspectos epidemiológicos dos tipos de câncer mais frequentes diagnosticados no Laboratório de Patologia Animal (LPA) do Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (HOVET-UFU) de 2012 a 2020; determinar possíveis fatores predisponentes (gênero, raça e idade) à ocorrência destes cânceres em cães de Uberlândia e região; e explorar os possíveis fatores de risco envolvidos na carcinogênese nessa população. Quanto à classificação, dividiu-se os cães por gênero (macho – 23,79%; fêmea – 74,78%), idade (jovens: < 1 ano, 0,30%; adultos: 1 a 7 anos, 14,88%; idosos: > 7 anos, 67,89%) e raça (sem raça definida - 48,87%; raça definida - 48,61%). Houve animais que não possuíam registros quanto ao sexo, idade e raça. Cães idosos e da raça Poodle, Pinscher e Dachshund apresentaram maior frequência de câncer. O teste Qui-Quadrado indicou maior ocorrência de tumores cutâneos nas raças American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, Labrador Retriever, Rottweiler, Schnauzer e Shih Tzu e de tumores não cutâneos em Poodle e Yorkshire Terrier e cães sem raça definida. O tecido mais acometido foi glândula mamária (43,63%), sistema tegumentar (37,54%) e outros sistemas (17,20%).
