Att odla staden : En historisk analys av stadsodling som strategi för livsmedelssäkerhet | Cultivating the City : A Historical Analysis of Urban Agriculture as a Strategy for Food Security

Denna studie undersöker stadsodlingens utveckling och dess potential som strategi för lokallivsmedelssäkerhet med särskilt fokus på Stockholmsregionen. Genom en historisk analyskartläggs hur stadsodlingen har förändrats från 1900-talet till idag, med fokus påsocio-politiska drivkrafter, civilsamhällets roll samt kommunens roll i att möjliggöraodlingsinitiativ. Studien analyserar också stadsodlingens funktion i krisberedskap och hursociala värden, såsom samhällsengagemang och gemenskap, bidrar till dess betydelse utöverren matproduktion. Resultaten visar att stadsodling har begränsningar somlivsmedelsförsörjare, men att dess främsta värde ligger i att stärka odlingskunskap, lokalhållbarhet och social sammanhållning. Studien bidrar med insikter för hur kommunal policyoch planering kan främja stadsodling som en del av ett hållbart och resilientlivsmedelssystem.

This study examines the development of urban agriculture and its potential as a strategy forlocal food security, with a particular focus on the Stockholm region. Through a historicalanalysis, it maps how urban agriculture has evolved from the 20th century to the present,emphasizing socio-political drivers, the role of civil society, and the municipality’s role inenabling cultivation initiatives. The study also analyzes the function of urban agriculture incrisis preparedness and how social values, such as community engagement and togetherness,contribute to its significance beyond mere food production. The results show that urbanagriculture has limitations as a food supplier, but its primary value lies in strengtheningcultivation knowledge, local sustainability, and social cohesion. The study provides insightson how municipal policy and planning can promote urban agriculture as part of a sustainableand resilient food system.
