Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a complex metabolic disease characterized by persistent hyperglycaemia. And it is chronic glucose toxicity that influences the development of other critical symptoms of diabetes mellitus. To prevent the occurrence and subsequent treatment of diabetes, new alternative sources are being sought. In our study, we focused on the effect of bee bread and cornelian cherry fruit (Cornus mas L.) administered jointly in a homogenized dose (500 mg.kg-1 each) by gastric tube on the onset and development of diabetes mellitus, on the alleviation of symptoms of glucose toxicity and insulin resistance. We found that regular consumption of these substances resulted in improved glycaemia and had a preventive effect on glucose toxicity in young rats suffering from DM2T. Further studies are required.
