Evaluation of the agronomic performance of new cotton varieties (Gossypium hirsutum L.) introduced in the Senegalese cotton basin | Evaluation de performances agronomiques de nouvelles variétés de cotonnier (Gossypium hirsutum L.) introduites dans le bassin cotonnier du Sénégal

In view of the inter- and intra-annual variability of rainfall in the Senegalese cotton zone, improving productivity depends largely on the strategy of choosing and disseminating high-performance plant material adapted to the zone. Thus, a comparative study of the agronomic performance of four new cotton varieties according to the different agro-climatic zones of the Senegalese cotton basin was initiated. The experimentation was carried out between 2015 and 2016 in three Multilocal Experimentation Antennas (AMEX). A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. Observations focused on earliness at flowering, earliness at boll maturity and yield and its components. The results showed that the varieties FK 37 and FK 64 are at the same level of earliness as the popularized control (Stam 129) and have good production levels (seed cotton and lint). The variety IRMA-L484 was characterized by a late maturity and a low fiber production. IRMA-L457 has a productive capacity in seed cotton and lint, but presents a late maturity. In addition to agronomic performances, the study of the technological characteristics of the fiber could reinforce the criterion of choice of the varieties in substitute of the one popularized in the cotton zone. Face à la variabilité inter et intra-annuelle de la pluviométrie en zone cotonnière sénégalaise, l’amélioration de la productivité repose en grande partie sur la stratégie de choix et de diffusion de matériel végétal performant et adapté à la zone. Ainsi, une étude comparative des performances agronomiques de quatre nouvelles variétés de cotonnier en fonction des différentes zones agro- climatiques du bassin cotonnier du Sénégal a été initié. L’expérimentation a été réalisée entre 2015 et 2016 dans trois Antennes Multilocales d’Expérimentation (AMEX). Un dispositif en blocs aléatoires complets avec quatre répétitions a été utilisé. Les observations ont porté sur la précocité à la floraison, la précocité à la maturité des capsules et le rendement et ses composantes. Les résultats ont montré que les variétés FK 37 et FK 64 sont au même niveau de précocité que le témoin vulgarisé (Stam 129) et enregistrent de bons niveaux de production (coton graine et fibres). La variété IRMA-L484 s’est caractérisée par une maturité tardive et une faible production en fibre. IRMA-L457 a une capacité productive en coton graine et en fibre, mais elle présente une maturité tardive. En plus des performances agronomiques, l’études des caractéristiques technologiques de la fibre pourrait renforcer le critère de choix des variétés en substitut de celle vulgarisée en zone cotonnière.
