Proposal of energy strategy for water supply in livestock | Propuesta de estrategia energética para abasto de agua en la ganadería

The impacts of the climatic change in the agricultural sector, mainly the manifestations of stronger and more frequent drought, force to achieve the most efficient use of the available water. In the Managerial Base Unit (UEB) “Genetics Los Pinos” of the Cattle Company Triángulo Tres in Camagüey province the readiness of superficial and underground water is limited, which limits the agricultural production of this UEB. This situation has forced to use such alternative solutions as the supply of water in pipes, with high consumption of diesel fuel and o electric power, which also constitutes a solution that doesn't satisfy the necessities. With the objective of achieving an efficient use of the water and the energy for the supply to the animals was carried out an integral study that allows to know the specific situation of each of the existent supply sources and the possibilities of achieving a more efficient level of use of the water starting from an integral strategy that prioritizes the employment of renewable sources of energy. The results indicate that exists the potential possibility of improving the level of satisfaction of the necessities of water for the supply to the livestock from 20 % to 80 %, as long as the use of the renewable sources of energy is increased of 38 % to 79 %, which will require actions that include investments and organizational measures related with the rational use of the energy.

Los impactos del cambio climático en el sector agropecuario, principalmente las manifestaciones de sequía, cada día más fuertes y frecuentes, obligan a lograr el uso más eficiente posible del agua disponible. En la Unidad Empresarial de Base (UEB) “Genética Los Pinos” de la Empresa Pecuaria Triángulo Tres de la provincia Camagüey la disponibilidad de agua superficial y subterránea es limitada, lo cual limita la producción agropecuaria de esta UEB. Esta situación ha obligado a utilizar soluciones alternativas tales como el suministro de agua en pipas, con alto consumo de combustible diesel y de energía eléctrica, lo cual además constituye una solución que no satisface las necesidades. Con el objetivo de lograr un uso eficiente del agua y la energía para el abasto a los animales se realizó un estudio integral que permitió conocer la situación específica de cada una de las fuentes de abasto existentes y las posibilidades de lograr un mayor nivel de uso del agua a partir de una estrategia integral que prioriza el empleo de fuentes renovables de energía. Los resultados indican que existe la posibilidad potencial de mejorar el nivel de satisfacción de las necesidades de agua para el abasto al ganado desde el 20 % al 80 %, en tanto el uso de las fuentes renovables de energía se incrementa del 38 % al 79 %, lo cual requerirá de la ejecución de acciones que incluyen inversiones y medidas organizativas relacionadas con el uso racional de la energía.
