Forecasting of the process of damming of the Zhinvalhesi reservoir on the basis of bathymetric research.
2024
For the assessment of reservoir sedimentation processes, regular bathymetric measurements are conducted for determining the reservoir terrain actual elevation model, enabling sediment influx monitoring from the rivers. Continuous surveys have been conducted at the Zhinvali reservoir since 2014. Consistent monitoring facilitates the control and prediction of sediment occurrence, allowing for timely interventions to decelerate or halt the sedimentation process. The technology involves planning cross-sections and using an eco-sounder to measure depth at consistent intervals, covering the entire reservoir area. The results determine the reservoir's actual volume, with variances from the design volume indicating accumulated sediment volume and illustrating live storage reduction dynamics. The article presents bathymetric monitoring data from 2014-2022, using modern instruments and processing, visualization, and analysis methods. The article also provides forecasts and recommendations concerning the sedimentation process. Tab. 4, Fig. 12, Ref. 8.
