This work presents an outline to demonstratethe need of creating new paradigmatic bases that allowdeveloping a more productive agriculture, optimizing soilplantrelationships without affecting the environmental health.Therefore, it is necessary to make up the new biological andtechnical approaches of agricultural sciences with thosecoming from social sciences. It is concluded that to developa sustainable agriculture, the social, economic and politicaldemands that enable to create a sustainable society shouldbe taken into account. Current paradigms leading soil-plantrelationships assume that agroecosystem restrictions can beremoved just by applying different kinds of external inputs;they are concentrated on soil exogenous processes and leavebehind the endogenous ones, and do not consider plants asorganisms with their own abilities and strategies to grow andsurvive in close relationship with effective soil biologicalprocesses. At present, interrelationships existing with theecological, socioeconomic and cultural contexts, whereproductive processes settle down, are not considered, so it iswrongly concluded that the knowledge and technologies canbe applied in the same way everywhere. So that to solve thecurrent serious feeding troubles, a qualitative jumprepresented by paradigmatic changes must be made, thatallow to assume new commitments, setting down theinterdisciplinary nature and systemic approach on research,education, technological transfer and agricultural practice.

El presente trabajo ofrece argumentaciones parademostrar la necesidad de crear nuevas bases paradigmáticas,que permitan garantizar el desarrollo de una agricultura másproductiva, optimizando las relaciones suelo-planta sin afectarla salud ambiental. Para ello, se hace necesario integrar losnuevos enfoques biológicos y técnicos de las ciencias agrícolascon los procedentes de las ciencias sociales y se concluyeque para desarrollar una agricultura sustentable hay que teneren cuenta las exigencias sociales, económicas y políticas queconducen a crear una sociedad sustentable. Los paradigmasactuales que orientan las relaciones suelo-planta asumen quelas limitaciones de los agroecosistemas pueden ser eliminadassolamente con la aplicación de distintas clases de insumosexternos, se concentran en los procesos exógenos del suelo yolvidan los endógenos, y no consideran a las plantas comoorganismos con sus propias capacidades y estrategias paracrecer y sobrevivir en estrecha relación con los procesos biológicosefectivos del suelo. Hoy no se consideran lasinterrelaciones que existen con los contextos ecológicos,socioeconómicos y culturales, donde se establecen los procesosproductivos y se concluye falsamente que los conocimientosy las tecnologías pueden ser aplicados de la mismamanera en cualquier lugar. Es por ello que para resolver losgraves problemas alimentarios que hoy existen, debe darse unsalto cualitativo representado por cambios paradigmáticos, quepermitan asumir los nuevos compromisos, estableciéndose lainterdisciplinariedad y el enfoque sistémico en la investigación,docencia, transferencia tecnológica y práctica agrícola.
