Present knowledge on the magnetic field of celestial<br />bodies in briefly reviewed.<br />Theoretic results on the interaction of the solar wind and its frozenin<br />magnetic field with the geomagnetic field are presented. Satellite measurements<br />within and outside t h e magnetosphere are then discussed: agreement<br />with theoretical results is quite good.
