The study analyses the influence of wood ash on winter wheat (the 2nd year after liming) yield and the yield quality compared to other liming materials. The demo included four variants: (1) without soil liming, (2) fast-acting material – wood ash, (3) granulated liming material PolCalc, (4) slow-acting material – liming material Kalk V. Soil liming was carried out in spring 2023 prior to pea (plant) sowing. The soil response prior to the demonstration was: Stende pHkcl 5.6–5.9 and Skriveri pHkcl 4.9–5.3. The liming rates for each liming material were calculated from the results of agrochemical analysis of the soil to increase pH of the soil by one unit. In 2024, the winter wheat grain yield varied significantly between demonstration sites: Skriveri 2.72–6.60 t ha ־¹, Stende 8.96–10.17 t ha ־¹, depending on the variant. At both demonstration sites, the increase in yield was significant compared to the control variant in all variants with liming. Dry and hot weather affected grain filling, with 1000 grain weight varying significantly between the demonstration sites: 46.6 g in Stende, and only 36.7 g in Skriveri (soil liming did not influence this yield-forming element). The only yield-forming element affected by soil liming material was the number of grains in the ear. In variants where liming was done, the number of grains in the ear was higher than in the control option.
