An 11-year-old, 3.3 kg, male Maltese dog was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Konkuk University because of diarrhea and severe anemia. Abnormal physical examination findings included left submandibular lymph node enlargement, pale mucous membrane, cataract, and bloody diarrhea. Results of hematologic examination revealed a marked lymphocytosis resulting in leukocytosis and the markedly increased numbers of small, well-differentiated lymphocytes in the peripheral blood. Serum biochemical abnormalities consisted of elevated AST and ALP, hyperphosphatemia, hypoglycemia, and hypoalbuminemia.

To compare the sedative effects using intermittent intravenous bolus injection with tiletaminezolazepam (n = 5, TZ group), xylazine-ketamine (n = 5, XK group) and propofol (n = 5, PI group), we investigated the changes of hemodynamic (heart rate, arterial pressure), SpO₂, rectal temperature, respiratory rate and pain score during 60 minute sedation and 40 minute recovery period in beagle dogs. The value of rectal temperature was significantly higher in PI groups (p less than 0.05) during recovery period. The value of heart rate was significantly lower in XK group (p less than 0.05) during sedation. The changes of respiratory rate were similar tendency in all groups.

One-lung ventilation (OLV) is the isolation and selective ventilation of one lung field. OLV allows the collapse of lung lobes on the side of the thoracic surgical approach to facilitate observation of intrathoracic structures and to achieve lung immobility. OLV be achieved by endotracheal intubation with double lumen tubes or bronchial blockers. In this study, cardiopulmonary consequences of two-lung ventilation (TLV), OLV and Re-TLV (TLV after OLV) were evaluated in 5 dogs. The dogs were anesthetized with mask induction and maintained with isoflurane in oxygen. Tidal volume and respiratory rates were set to maintain end-tidal CO₂ at 40±2 mmHg during instrumentation.

An 18-month-old male Alaskan malamute was euthanized due to slowly growing mass around the left femur after history of left posterior limb lameness. At necropsy, a firm confluent mass approximately 15cm in diameter was noted surrounding the femur and proximal portion of the tibia/ulna with traumatic ulceration of the overlying skin. On cross sections of the mass, many unencapsulated firm tan coalescing lobules were noted. The neoplasm consisted of closely packed spindle cells with homogenous eosinophilic material (osteoids) between the neoplastic cells. The pulmonary metastasis was confirmed. Based on the gross and histopathologic examinations, the case was diagnosed as juvenile osteosarcoma.

To assess anesthetic depth using quantitative electroencephalography (q-EEG), we recorded processed EEG (raw EEG) till 100 minutes in beagle dogs anesthetized for 60 minutes with tiletamine/zolazepam (n=5, TZ group), xylazine/ketamine (n=5, XK group) and propofol (n=5, PI group) by intermittent bolus injection. Raw EEG was converted into 95% spectral edge frequency (SEF) and median frequency (MF) through fast fourier transformation (FFT) method. 95% SEF value of TZ group was significantly higher (p less than 0.05) than the XK group from 10 minutes to 100 minutes. 95% SEF value of PI group was significantly higher (p less than 0.05) than the XK group from 10 minutes to 40 minutes, and significantly low (p less than 0.05) than XK group at 90 and 100 minutes.

The purpose of this study is to compare hepatotoxicity of each treatment for dermatophytosis; one is the administration of the ketoconazole only and the other, ketoconazole with diphenyl-dimeththyl-dicarboxylate. Have chosen the range of 14-24 months of healthy dogs divided by two groups (group 1 and group 2) for the experiment of which test proved positive in dermatophytosis diagnosis and showed normal reaction in terms of physical examination, blood chemistry and especially of liver function. Group 1 was administrated ketoconazole orally at 10 mg/kg/day and of same dose of ketoconazole with diphenyl-dimethyl-dicarboxylate for group 2.

This study was investigated of the bone healing capacity by autologous fibrin glue in experimental bone defect dogs. The autologous fibrin glue manufactured just before the experiment was mixed with the concentrated fibrinogen from whole blood of the experimental dog and bovine thrombin. The experimental group was constituted with seven dogs. The experimental osteotomy was performed 5 mm length in bilateral region of proximal diaphyseal fibulae. The defected regions of experimental group were filled with the autologous fibrin glue by duploject. The experimental regions had been radiographed biweekly for 16 weeks to observe new bone formation and union.

Hermaphroditism was discovered in four dogs at surgery. For the classification of the type of hermaphroditism in each case, gross morphological and histopathological studies were performed. Based on the histopathological studies, two dogs were diagnosed as unilateral true hermaphroditism because they had mixed gonad containing testis and ovary in unilateral gonad. Whereas two dogs were diagnosed as male pseudohermaphroditism because they had only testis and uterus that had endometrial atrophy. After resection, further follow-up of several months revealed no evidence of clinical abnormalities.

Adhesions are the most common postoperative complication in intestinal surgery in dogs. This study was aimed at verify to the efficacy of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (SCMC) in the adhesion prevention during healing of intestinal anastomosis. Twenty three healthy dogs were taken with average 4.17 years and weight was 5.68 kg and divided into 4 groups. The dogs of group Ⅲ and Ⅳ, a pedicle of greater omentum was wrapped around the suture line. In the animals of group Ⅱ and Ⅳ, 1% SCMC was infused (5 ml/kg, IP) at just before closure of the abdominal cavity. Two weeks after surgery, animals were reoperated and the adhesions were evaluated and graded.

Color Doppler imaging (CDI) was carried out to evaluate the anesthetics effect on ophthalmic circulation using CDI-derived resistive index (RI) values. CDI was preformed on 24 dogs, and RI values were calculated for the medial long posterior ciliary artery (mLPCA) and ophthalmic artery (OA) before and after administration of anesthetics. After administration of benoxinate or acepromazine, a significant change of the mLPCA RI was not found. But, a significant decrease of the RI following ketamine (p less than 0.001) or xylazine (p less than 0.01) administration could be observed as compared with the self-control. Mean RI value of OA also showed this same trend.
