The veterinary graduates and postgraduates should be enabled with professional abilities and employability skills to be successful in the competitive technology driven world. In order to know the background and socio-profile characteristics of the respondents, it is important to analyse these characteristics in depth. The socio-profile characteristics of people vary with the location to location, time to time and society to society. Therefore, the study was undertaken to study the socio-profile characteristics of postgraduates of SVVU and constraints faced by them to gain employability. The results of the research revealed that majority (53.34 %) of the post graduates belonged to first class category of academic performance and majority (66.7 %) of post graduates belonged to 24-27 years of age group. Nearly half (56.70 %) of them belonged to open category and half of the postgraduates hailed from the rural background. Majority (77.50%) of respondents were with medium annual family income and half (50 %) of their fathers were farmers. Majority (80.00 %) of the postgraduates had medium level of exposure to college library. While 61 per cent of them were aware of the job Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) and preferred VAS job after completion of B. V. Sc & AH. Majority (65.00 %) of the respondents had medium achievement motivation and 61.7 per cent of them were with medium level of hard work. The foremost constraints faced by the postgraduates were poor involvement of the students in learning process and lack of interest among the scholars to develop the employability skills.

The present study was undertaken to identify various constraints faced by urban consumers and to assess the interrelationships between constraint score in consumption of dairy products and the socio-demographic factors. For this research work, Chennai metro city was purposively selected due to its massive urbanization. A total of 195 household dairy products consumers were selected by a simple random sampling procedure from North, Central and South regions of Chennai city (65 from each) and primary data was collected with the help of well-structured and pre tested interview schedule. The results indicated that the major constraints faced byconsumers in consumption of dairy products was in the order of poor accessibility, insufficient supply, poor shopping environment, outlet not open on all the days, non-availability in preferred quantity and poor packaging. The results indicated that the variable, monthly family income was found to be positively influencing the constraint score whereas, family size, hindu religion, educational status of the head of the household and presence of children in the family were found to be negatively influencing constraint score in consumption of fluid milk whereas in case of ghee, khoa and ice cream, the variable, food habit of the family was found to be positivelyinfluencing the constraint score whereas, family size, monthly family income, educational status of the head of the household and presence of children in the family was found to be negatively influencing constraint score in consumption of ghee, khoa and ice cream.

The socioeconomic importance of nomadic donkey rearing, perception on health benefits of donkey milk and the marketing channels involved remain unexplored. This paper aims at providing details on nomadic donkey rearing, a traditional system prevailing in Tamil Nadu. Donkey played a significant role in the livelihood of its owners who had migrated throughout Tamil Nadu for selling donkey milk. They traversed around 30 – 40 km per day to sell the donkey milk besides meeting the grazing needs of the donkeys. Majority of the nomadic donkey rearers were young to middle aged and were scheduled tribes. Two third of the respondents were involved in nomadic donkey rearing for nearly eight months in a year and for the remaining four months they earned their livelihood as agricultural labourers. The study revealed that on an average, lactating jenny yield milk for six months. At the end of the lactation period, the donkey rearers sold the dry jenny to the traders and in turn purchased the lactating jenny from them. The nomadic donkey rearers believed that the donkey milk had medicinal benefits to cure ailments such as ulcer, indigestion, pneumonia, jaundice, leukorrhea and hypernatremia. The respondents preferred institutional support in marketing donkey milk so that they could settle in one place and thrive better.
