Histopathological observations of the natural case and experimental occurrence of perirenal edema in pig
1984
Cho, S.W. (Chungnam National Univ., Taejon (Korea R.). Dept. of Histology) | Lee, C.S. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
This paper deals with the histopathological observations of the perirenal edema in pigs and rabbits administered with Amaranthus retroflexus, based on the clinical and pathological observations of the porcine perirenal edema naturally occurring in Korea R. In the natural case, clinical signs are trembling, weakness and incoordination of the hindquarters, followed by sternal recumbency, coma and death. Death usually occurs within 24 hrs after the appearance of illness signs

1984
Kang, Y.B. (Office of Rural Development, Anyang (Korea R.). Inst. of Veterinary Research)
The specimens were examined at the Institute of Veterinary Research in Anyang, Korea R. and were identified as Rhipicephilus sanguineus (Latreille 1806). The morphological characteristics observed by means of the scanning electron microscope were presented with some SEM microphotographs. As R. sanguineus was firstly discovered to occur in Korea R, a total of 20 species of ticks belonging to 8 genera such as Argas, Amblyomma, Boophilus, Dermacentor, Haemaphysalis, Hyalomma, Ixodes and Rhipicephalus has now been recorded

1984
Kim, D.S. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Dairy Science)
The research was conducted to confirm the agent responsible for the antimicrobial activity contained in the fermented tomato juice with Lactobacillus acidophilus to extract and purify the antimicrobial agent to find the biological, physical and chemical properties of the agent. The agent responsible for the inhibitory activity was confirmed by both well assay method using fermented tomato juice with L. acidophilus and turbidimetric technique using the cell-free filtrate or neutralized filtrate of tomato acidophilus culture and found exerted antimicrobial agent other than lactic acid

1984
Park, J.H. | Kim, C.S. (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Seoul (Korea R.))
The protective effects of high levels of dietary iron, copper, zinc or protein on lead toxicity were studied in chicks. Growth retardation, reduction of feed intake, anemia and accumulation of lead in the bone and kidney were observed in chicks fed a diet containing 500mg lead as chloride/kg of feed for 42 days. Early changes due to ingested lead were inhibition of red blood cell 8-aminolevulinic acid dehydrase at all doses and no effect of iron, copper, zinc or protein addition were observed

1984
Kang, B.K. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Agriculture. Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
A total of 466 foremilk from dairy farms in Chonnam Korea [R.] district was examined for the subclinical mastitis over a period of 1 year, using a method of the electrical conductivities (EC); absolute conductivity (AC) and differential conductivity (DC) and quarter difference value (QD), in relation to the California mastitis test (CMT) and the direst somatic cell count (DSCC). The compatibility and efficiency rating between the EC values and the other screening tests was conducted

1984
Lee, Y.S. | Lim, C.H. (Seoul National Univ., Suwon (Korea R.). Coll of Veterinary Medicine)
An ultrastructural study was to investigate on 2 cases of canine leiomyosarcoma. The nuclei of most tumor cells showed bilobate appearance. Most cells of the tumors had no distinct basement membrane. Most cells of the tumors had a degenerative rough endoplasmic reticulum. Intercellular matrix contained some amounts of collagen. Attachment areas between tumor cells were not apparent, but a few tight junction were clearly seen. Myofibrils were present in bipolar end area

1984
Han, B.K. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Agriculture. Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
This study was to investigate the development pattern of epididymis in accordance with the growth of meat-type cockerels. Histological features of various ductules in epididymis of the cockerel on the age of weeks were within 10 weeks after hatching rete testis and connecting ductules were well developed but efferent ductules were observed in immature form. During 10th to 20th week, the lining epithelium of various ductules in epididymis was in the developing stage near to the mature form

1984
Lee, H.S. | Lee, J.S. (Seoul National Univ., Suwon (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
This macroscopic observation was performed to investigate the aortic arch and their branches of the Korean native goat. Ten Korean native goats with black hairs ranging in body weight from 15 to 20kg were used. The findings were based on the latex cast of the vessels made by injection of neoprene latex. The Truncus bicaroticus was continued from the Truncus brachiocephalicus after branching off the A. subclavia dextra in 8 out of 10 cases, but the As. carotidas communes sinistra and dextra were directly branched from the Truncus brachiocephalicus without forming the Truncus bicaroticus in the remaining 2 cases

1984
Jang, W. | Suh, D.S. | Park, N.Y. | Kim, O.N. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
Effects on the healing process of the wound was compared between acupuncture and medicament anesthesia. Ten adult dogs were used and for medicament anesthesia thiopental sodium (Ravonal R) was injected. Incisions were made under anesthesia and thereafter clinical signs were observed and histopathological examinations were performed. No differences were found in the clinical signs between the 2 groups. Macroscopically and microscopically, the healing process was a little faster in the wounds under medicament anesthesia

1984
Kang, Y.B. (Office of Rural Development, Suwon (Korea R.). Inst. of Veterinary Research) | Byun, S.Y. (Cheju Provincial Veterinary Research Lab., Chejudo (Korea R.))
A migratory bird, the white stork Ciconia boyciana was captured from a pond in the Chejudo, Korea R. on the 18th of Dec. 82. The morphological characteristics were described as seen in the binocular stereoscopic microscope and further fine structures were observed by means of the scanning electron microscope (model; ISI-DS-130). The bird was examined for ectoparasites at the Cheju Provincial Veterinary Research Lab. Two kinds of specimens were collected from the head and body feathers. The specimens were sent to the Inst. of Veterinary Research in Anyang, Korea R. for classification and identification
