Serological survey of horses in Korea for evidence of Getah virus infection
1986
Rhee, Y.O. | Heo, Y. | Kim, Y.H. | Sul, D.S. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Inst.)
The prevalence of antibody to Getah virus was serologically followed among those horses in Korea. Blood samples were taken from 575 horses in Feb and 462 horses in Sep. 1985. Overall percentage of horses with seropositive to Getah virus was 37% in Feb and 47% in Sep. The data suggest that the Getah virus infection was endemic in Korea and the increase in prevalence may be associated with the seasonal activity of arthropod vectors. This entails preventive precautions of the horses against this viral infection before the entry into Korea

Anthelmintic efficacy of albendazole and ivermectin against gastrointestinal nematodes, trematodes and cestode in Korean antive goats
1986
Suh, M.D. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The anthelmintic efficacy of Albendazole and Ivermectin against gastrointestinal nematodes, trematodes and cestode was tested in naturally infected Korean native goats. Albendazole was medicated at a dose rate of 10mg/kg of body weight orally and Ivermectin was injected at a dose rate of 0.2mg/kg of body weight subcutaneously. The efficacy was measured by faecal examinations on the day 7th and the day 14th after treatment

The cycle of the seminiferous epithelia in the testis of mature Korean native cattle was divided into twelve stages, using criteria the morphological changes in the acrosomic system and the nuclei of developing spermatids and germ cells. The minimum number of type A spermatogonia were the average of 1.8 in both at stages 1 and 6, while maximum numbers were the average of 4.2 at stage 12. Some type A spermatogonia divided at stage 12 to produce the type intermediate (IN) spermatogonia at following stage 1. The intermediate type spermatogonia divided at stage 4 to produce the type B spermatogonia at stage 5

1986
Lee, G.L. | Choi, W.P. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The purpose of this study was the examination for presence of K99 antigen (K99), enterotoxigenicity, 0-groups, colicin and antibiotic susceptibility among E. coli isolated from calves and cows. A total of 49 (18.7%) among 262 strains, isolated from 30 (26.5) out of 113 calves and cows, possesed K99, and thirty three of 49 K99+ strains produced ST. Of the strains of diarrheal calf origin which less than 15 days old, a high correlation was observed between enterotoxigenic ability and K99: 92.3% of the K99+ strains produced heat stable enterotoxin (ST)

1986
Kim, S.C. | Jo, C.H. (Seoul National Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Lee, K.W. (National Animal Breeding Inst., Sungwhan (Korea R.))
The 587 Holstein cows which calved from Jan 1983 to Dec 1984 at an integrated dairy farm in Chungnam province were examined for the incidence of reproductive disorders and their conception rate after treatment. The incidence of reproductive disorders was 47.9% (281 heads) among 587 heads which calved. As number of calvings increased, the incidence of reproductive disorders decreased. The cows which calved in spring and summer showed significantly higher incidence of reproductive disorders than those which calved in autumn and winter (p 0.05)

Song, H.J. | Kim, S.H. | Kim, J.M. (Chonbuk National Univ., Chonju (Korea R.))
The present study was undertaken to evaluate rosette formation and NK activity of splenic lymphocytes in 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) treated mice. Mice were sensitized iv with 0.1ml of 1% sheep red blood cell (SRBC) suspension were treated with a single ip injection of olive oil alone or with different doses of MCA in oil at various time before or after sensitization, and were challenged at 4 days after SRBC. Rosette formation and NK activity of splenic lymphocytes were measured at 24 hrs after challenge

1986
Lee, H.S. | Kim, D.J. (Seoul National Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
The arterial supply to the eyeball of the Korean native goat has been described. Observations were made by dissection of ten Korean native goats fixed in embalming fluid and injected with neoprene latex. The eyeball and accessory ocular organ of the Korean native goat received its blood supply chiefly from the A. ophthalmica externa and partly from the branches of A. temporalis superficialis and A. malaris. A. ophthalmica externa formed Rete mirabile ophthalmicum after giving off Ramus muscularis and A. lacrimalis, and continued to A. supraorbitalis

The present study has been carried out to investigate the optimal condition on the blastogenesis of guinea pig lymphocytes. A microculture system in conjuction with a semiautomatic multiple sample harvester (SAMSH) was used to study the in vitro optimal condition of guinea pig lymphocytes. Data were presented to show many variables that were involved in studying the responses of guinea pig lymphocyte in a microculture system to the stimulation of Concanavalin A (Con A) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)

This paper deals with the distribution, reservoir and mode of spread of salmonella infection on 7 pig farms in Taegu, Kyongbuk, Kyongnam and Chungnam and a slaughter house in Taegu during the period from May 1984 to May 1985. Isolated salmonella were examined for serotypes and biotyping of S. typhimurium. Of total 7,995 samples from 7 pig farms and a slaughter house, 319 salmonella were isolated from 234 samples (2.9%) and their serovar strains were S. derby 77, S. infantis 41, S. enteritidis 20, S. typhimurium 18, S. bredeney 16, S. london 14, S. paratyphi B 9, anatum 8, S. montevideo 8, S. senftenberg 7, S. thompson 6, S. pullorum 4, S. paratyphi A a and untypable 70
