Purpose. To study the influence of agriecological conditions of edaphic-climatic macro- and microzones on adaptability and productivity of new soft winter wheat, identification and selection of complementary varieties for appropriate conditions. Methods. Field, laboratory, analytical and statistical ones. Results. Peculiarities of the formation of productivity of varieties and its stability cultivation on the condions of cultivation in edaphic-climatic zones, subzones and microzones, including favourable and unfavourable years were studied. For realizing the potential of their productivity, it is advisable to introduce a differentiated approach to their cultivation in agri-climatic zones, subzones, microzones according to the requirements of biological characteristics of varieties, their natural adaptive capacity, natural and ecological environment of these zones. Complementary varieties were identified and recommended for use in edaphic-climatic zones, subzones and microzones that demonstrated high plasticity, better adaptability to favourable agri-ecological factors and were more tolerant and resistant to adverse ones. Conclusions. According to the set of productivity and ecological plasticity indices, it is desirable to cultivate varieties Sotnytsya, Kalancha, Hurt, Tonatsiya, Dobrochyn, Gubernator Donu in the Steppe zone; Sotnytsya, Oriyka, Lira Odeska, Tatsitus and Fidelius – in the Forest-Steppe; Tatsitus, Fidelius, Sailor, Etela – in the Polissia.

Purpose. Field, laboratory, analytical and statistical ones. Results. Ten C. сhinensis cultivars of theGerman breeding were tested under conditions of the Central Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. Biomorphological traits of the varieties of five sort types were identified, and their comparative analysis was conducted. Seasonal dynamics of growth and development of cultivars in the growing area was studied. Conclusions. Cultivars with short and mean duration phases of development can be grown under conditions of the Central Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine by direct sowing that does not affect their seed productivity and sowing quality of seeds. Seeds of late cultivars can reach complete maturity only in case of seedling use. C. chinensis cultivars of the German breeding have successfully passed the initial test for suitability to introduction into the studied area.

Living organisms in nature harmonize through the medium of light spectrum and sound vibration. Therefore the issue of applying the scientific customization of color scale to identification of vegetative and generative parts of plans remain up to date, namely: identification if states of expression for hues of green color of stem and foliage, variability of color range for petals of follower corolla, coloration of pericarp and seed etc. A scientific rationale is provided to the application of RHS during the qualifying examination of plant varieties by way of identification – morphological description. This also disclosed the application of RHS to visualize various qualitative and pseudo-qualitative morphological characteristics of vegetative and generative parts of plants. The performed chronological monitoring of stag-by-stage introduction of standardization of living biological items enabled to establish a customized gradation of colors and their hues expression. Ensuring completeness of the morphological code formula for plant varieties requires compulsory identification of their colors and hues, as the Guidelines for the conduct of test on distinctness, uniformity and stability so provide for relevant botanical taxon.

Purpose. Conducting economic evaluations of late varieties of white cabbage of various sort types bred by Kyiv experimental station of the Institute of Vegetables and Melons NAAS of Ukraine (IVM). Methods. Field, laboratory, statistical. Results. Experimental studies included phenological observations of plants growth and development, biometric measurements of vegetative and edible parts of plants, determination of biochemical сomposition of heads, records of yield and storability of late varieties of white cabbage of such sort types as Amager and Langedijska winter. Varieties with the highest yield, best biochemical composition and excellent storability of cabbage heads during four and six month periods were identified. Conclusions. Among the cabbage samples of Amager sort types, late variety Vasylyna was characterized by the highest yields. Olga variety provided the significant increase in productivity. Violanta variety had the highest yield within the sort type Langedijska (Langendijker) winter. Knyagynіa variety far exceed indices of standard Langendijker detsema. Late varieties of the first sort type produced the highest yield, the second ones demonstrated better biochemical composition and excellent storability of cabbage heads during four and six month period.

Purpose. Substantiating the selection of potato varieties for their ecological plasticity and stability to grow in Polissia. Methods. Field, laboratory, analitycal and statystical ones. Results. Impact of weather conditions during the growing season on the stability of potato varieties was estimated by indicators of yield, starch content and collection over the years by determining the average, standard deviation, minimum, maximum values and range of variation. ‘Memphis’, ‘Faluka’, ‘Arsenal’ and ‘Evolution’ were distinguished from the studied potato varieties by high genetic stability – their deviation from the average variance marked «minus» had values that were significantly less than zero. ‘Faktor’, ‘Flamenko’ and ‘Evora’ varieties are plastic (deviation is close to ±0), ‘Kolomba’, ‘Arizona’ and ‘Voliumiia’ ones – very plastic (deviation is most distant from zero). The studied varieties were distributed by homeostasis as follows: ‘Arizona’, ‘Colombo’, ‘Factor’ and ‘Memphis’ are the most valuable. Conclusions. ‘Evora’ potato variety can be considered intensive in terms of yield. ‘Evolution’ and ‘Flamenco’ varieties formed stable yields, during the years of study the difference between their maximum and minimum yields was the least – 8.2 and 9.3 tons per ha, respectively. Environmental assessment according to Eberhart and Russell indicates a high genetic stability of such potato varieties as ‘Arizona’, ‘Volyumiia’, ‘Kolombo’, ‘Evora’ and ‘Flamenko’. Conditions of Zhytomyr Oblast Plant Varieties Studying Centre are the most favorable among the studied regions to cultivate potato varieties.

Purpose. Identifying new scab-resistant apple varieties with high biological potential by the set of agronomic characters and the ability to realize it effectively in various soil and climatic conditions. Methods. Field, laboratory, comparison, generalization, statistical ones. Results. The author presents the results of study of 17 scab-resistant non-irrigated apple varieties on a semi-dwarf rootstock as to their adaptability to biotic and abiotic stressors as well as their economic productivity. The studied varieties appeared to be winter-hardy, frost- and heat-resistant, but medium drought-tolerant ones. They are characterized by weak and moderate susceptibility to powdery mildew, high resistance to fruit rot and very low amounts of brown spot, except for Gold Rush variety. Such 10 year old varieties as ‘Edera’, Florina’, ‘Amulet’ and ‘Perlyna Kyieva’ and 8 year old ‘Afrodita’, ‘Vitos’, ‘Orlovskoie Polesie’ and ‘Topaz’ formed the highest productivity during the years of study. Due to the pollen quality and high interfertility, ‘Revena’ and ‘Gold Rush’ varieties were identified as universal pollinators for winter scab-resistant apple varieties. Conclusions. Such ecologically resistant winter varieties as ‘Topaz’, ‘Freedom’, ‘Edera’ and autumnal ‘Remo’, ‘Afrodita’, ‘Vitos’, ‘Amulet’ were recognized as promising for new intensive non-irrigated plantations in the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. They can be the basis of new gardens occupying 25–30% of the area where ecologically safe fruits for various target purposes will be grown supplying demands of the population and processing industry.

Methods. Field, laboratory ones, variance analysis. Results. The influence of plant growth regulators (Lignogumat, Betastimulin) on earliness and productivity of such red beet varieties as Bordeaux Kharkivskyi and Aktion was established. Conclusions. Plant growth regulators (Betastimulin, Lignogumat) stimulated seed sprouting of red beet Bordeaux Kharkivskyi and Aktion varieties, activated vegetative plant growth increasing marketable yield. Application of Betastimulin (0.2%) for red beet Kharkivskyi Bordeaux and Aktion varieties provides the highest number of marketable beetroots, thus forming marketable yield of 44.7 and 54.9 t/ha respectively with the average beetroot weight of 328–519 g.

Установлено влияние регуляторов роста растений (лигногумат, бетастимулин) на скороспелость и продуктивность сортов свеклы столовой Бордо харьковский и Актион. Выводы. Регуляторы роста растений (бетастимулин, лигногумат) стимулировали прорастание семян сортов свеклы столовой Бордо харьковская и Актион, активизировали вегетативный рост растений, повышая товарную урожайность. Применение бетастимулина (0,2%) для сортов свеклы столовой Бордо харьковская и Актион обеспечивает наивысшее количество товарних корнеплодов, в результате чего формируется товарная урожайность 44,7 и 54,9 т/га со средней массой корнеплодов 328–519 г соответственно. | Мета. Виявлення адаптивних властивостей рослин сортів буряку столового Бордо харківський та Актіон на основі вивчення регуляторів росту рослин для товарного надходження продукції в Лісостепу України. Методи. Польовий, лабораторний, дисперсійний аналіз. Результати. Встановлено вплив регуляторів росту рослин (лігногумат, бетастимулін) на скоростиглість та продуктивність сортів буряку столового Бордо харківський та Актіон. Висновки. Регулятори росту рослин (бетастимулін, лігногумат) стимулювали проростання насіння сортів буряку столового Бордо харківський та Актіон, активізували вегетативний ріст рослин, підвищуючи товарну врожайність. Застосування бетастимуліну (0,2%) для сортів буряку столового Бордо харківський та Актіон забезпечує найвищу кількість товарних коренеплодів, внаслідок чого формується товарна врожайність 44,7 і 54,9 т/га відповідно з середньою масою коренеплодів 328–519 г.

Purpose. To study interactions among the representatives of the genus Salix L. through the cluster analysis, form groups of closely related species and hybrid forms basing on differences of morphological parameters of leaves. Methods. Field, cluster analysis and tree graphics. Results. Willow species were grouped according to absolute parameters of leaf, and three groups of clusters were identified. The degree of affinity between species were assessed using values of an Euclidean distance. Distinctive features of leaf parameters were defined: length of a leaf blade (Ll), distance (cm) between the leaf tip and its maximum width (SDmxT) and the distance between the leaf tip (cm) and the line of its width that corresponds to the length of petiole (SLpT). Conclusions. Using the willow species collection as an example, diagnostically valuable quantitative parameters of leaves were revealed, the use of which allows to identify willow species and hybrid forms through PC applications.

The degree of affinity between species were assessed using values of an Euclidean distance. Distinctive features of leaf parameters were defined: length of a leaf blade (Ll), distance (cm) between the leaf tip and its maximum width (SDmxT) and the distance between the leaf tip (cm) and the line of its width that corresponds to the length of petiole (SLpT). Conclusions. Using the willow species collection as an example, diagnostically valuable quantitative parameters of leaves were revealed, the use of which allows to identify willow species and hybrid forms through PC applications. | Цель. С помощью кластерного анализа исследовать взаимосвязи между представителями рода Salix L., сформировать группы видов и гибридных форм, близкородственных между собой, основываясь на различиях морфологических параметров листьев. Методы. Полевой, кластерного анализа и древовидной графики. Результаты. Виды ивы сгруппированы по абсолютным показателям листка и выделены три группы кластеров. Оценена степень родства видов между собой по значению евклидового расстояния. Определены отличительные показатели листка: длина листовой пластинки (Ll), расстояние (см) от верхушки листа до максимальной его ширины (SDmxT) и расстояние от верхушки листа до линии (см) ширины, соответствующей длине черешка (SLрT). Выводы. На примере коллекции ивы обнаружены диагностически ценные количественные показатели листьев, использование которых дает возможность идентифицировать виды и гибридные формы ивы с помощью прикладных программ для ПК. | Мета. За допомогою кластерного аналізу дослідити взаємозв’язки між представниками роду SalixL., сформувати групи видів і гібридних форм, близькоспоріднених між собою, ґрунтуючись на відмінностях морфологічних параметрів листків. Методи. Польовий, кластерного аналізу й деревоподібної графіки. Результати. Види верби згруповано за абсолютними показниками листка й виділено три групи кластерів. Оцінено ступінь спорідненості видів між собою за значенням евклідової відстані. Визначено відмінні показники листка: довжина листкової пластинки (Ll), відстань (см) від верхівки листка до максимальної його ширини (SDmxT) та відстань від верхівки листка (см) до лінії ширини, що відповідає довжині черешка (SLpT). Висновки. На прикладі колекції верби виявлено діагностично цінні кількісні показники листків, використання яких дає можливість ідентифікувати види й гібридні форми верби за допомогою прикладних програм для ПК.

To analyse the modern classification and nomenclature of species of pome fruit crops which varieties are listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine, and improve terminological system of the Ukrainian names of both species and garden crops. Results. Fruit cultivars and most apple clonal rootstocks belong to Malus pumila, and ornamental cultivars belong to Malus gloriosa. The most common scientific name of the cultivated apple, especially among horticulturists, is Malus domestica, although according to the principle of priority the name Malus pumila should have the advantage. As far as Nomenclature Committee for Vascular Plants has rejected the proposal to conserve the name Malus domestica, Malus pumila is correct name for the cultivated apple. The use of synonymic name Malus domestica should be avoided in both scientific and scientific-popular papers for stability of nomenclature. Pear cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine are presented by Pyrus communis, and pear rootstocks – by Cydonia oblonga. Fruit cultivars of the latter belong to separate fruit crop named quince. An apple-quince hybrid was registered as universal clonal rootstock for pome fruit crops. The State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine also contains nonconventional fruit crops such as Chaenomeles and hawthorn that consist of some species and nothospecies. Conclusions. In scientific publications one should stop the use of synonymic name Malus domestica in favour of the correct name for cultivated apple Malus pumila. Apple, pears and Chaenomeles cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine have a complex multispecies origin whereas quince, hawthorn and pear roostock cultivars systematically are monospecies. A universal roootstock of pome fruit crops is Cydolus, or apple-quince, that resulted from interspecies hybridization between quince and apple. Refusal Refuse to use obsolete names of fruit plants species will promote harmonization of professional language.

Проанализировать современную классификацию и номенклатуру видов семечковых культур, сорта которых занесены в Государственный реестр сортов растений, пригодных к распространению в Украине, и усовершенствовать терминологическую систему украинских названий видов и садовых культур. Результаты. Плодовые сорта и большинство клоновых подвоев яблони относятся к Malus pumila, декоративные сорта – к Malus gloriosa. Наиболее часто употребляемым названием культурной яблони, особенно в садоводческих кругах, является Malus domestica, хотя за принципом приоритета преимущество имеет название Malus pumila. Так как Номенклатурный комитет по сосудистым растениям отклонил предложение консервации названия Malus domestica, Malus pumila остается правильным названием культурной яблони. Синонимическое название Malus domestica не следует использовать в научных и научно-популярных работах, что будет способствовать стабилизации номенклатуры. Сорта груши в Государственном реестре сортов растений Украины представлены Pyrus communis, подвои груши – Cydonia oblonga. Плодовые сорта последней относятся к отдельной культуре – айве. Айвово-яблуневый гибрид зарегистрирован как универсальный клоновый подвой семечковых культур. В Государственный реестр сортов растений Украины занесены также сорта нетрадиционных плодовых культур хеномелеса и боярышника, которые состоят из нескольких видов и нотовидов. Выводы. В научных публикациях следует перестать применять синонимическое название Malus domestica в пользу правильного названия культурной яблони Malus pumila. Сорта яблони, груши и хеномелеса, занесенные в Государственный реестр сортов растений, пригодных к распространению в Украине, имеют сложное многовидовое происхождение, тогда как сорта айвы, боярышника и подвоев груши в систематическом отношении являются моновидовыми. Универсальный подвой семечковых культур – цидол, или яблонеайва, является результатом в результате межродовой гибридизации айвы с яблоней. Отказ от употребления устаревших названий видов плодовых растений будет способствовать гармонизации профессионального языка. | Мета. Проаналізувати сучасну класифікацію й номенклатуру видів зерняткових культур, сорти яких занесено до Державного реєстру сортів рослин, придатних до поширення в Україні, та вдосконалити термінологічну систему українських назв видів і садових культур. Результати. Плодові сорти й більшість клонових підщеп яблуні належать до Maluspumila, декоративні сорти – до Malus gloriosa. Найуживанішою науковою назвою культурної яблуні, особливо в садівничих колах, є Malus domestica, хоч за принципом пріоритету перевагу має назва Maluspumila. Оскільки Номенклатурний комітет з судинних рослин відхилив пропозицію консервування назви Malus domestica, Maluspumila залишається правильною назвою культурної яблуні. Синонімічну назву Malus domestica не варто вживати в наукових і науково-популярних працях, що сприятиме стабілізації номенклатури. Сорти груші в Державному реєстрі сортів рослин України представлено Pyruscommunis, підщепи груші – Cydoniaoblonga. Плодові сорти останньої належать до окремої культури – айви. Айвово-яблуневий гібрид зареєстровано як універсальну клонову підщепу зерняткових культур. До Держаного реєстру сортів рослин України занесено також сорти нетрадиційних плодових культур хеномелесу й глоду, що складаються з декількох видів і нотовидів. Висновки. У наукових публікаціях варто припинити вживати синонімічну назву Malusdomestica на користь правильної назви культурної яблуні Maluspumila. Сорти яблуні, груші й хеномелесу, що занесені до Державного реєстру сортів рослин, придатних до поширення в Україні, мають складне багатовидове походження, в той час як сорти айви, глоду й підщеп груші в систематичному відношенні є моновидовими. Універсальна підщепа зерняткових культур – цидол, або яблунеайва, походить від міжродової гібридизації айви з яблунею. Вилучення з ужитку застарілих назв видів плодових рослин сприятиме гармонізації фахової мови.
