Some difficulties in protection and exploitation of the "Grliste" water reservoir, source for supplying Zajecar and surrounding by drinking water [Serbia, Serbia&Montenegro]
2003
Milenkovic, P. (Zavod za zastitu zdravlja "Timok", Zajecar (Serbia and Montenegro)) | Nakic, S. | Bajic, A. | Radosavljevic, M.
The lack of drinking water in Zajecar was the main reason for building of water barrier on the Grliste river and making the water reservoir. A factory for water processing was also built, but the problems were not disappeared. The conclusion is that the main solution for this ecosystem was in establishing of an monitoring system. That is the reason why we talk out the results of the monitoring and the troubles in this water source as well as in the phases of water processing.

2003
Ristic, R. | Kadovic, R. | Djekovic, V. | Letic, Lj. | Nikic, Z. (Univerzitet u Beogradu, Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro). Sumarski fakultet)
One of the most important strategic-development directions of Serbia in the 21st century is restoration of hilly-mountainous regions. Stara Planina represents the region with extraordinary natural potentials almost unused, especially the part upstream of the reservoir Zavoj. Development of sheep raising on huge meadow-pasture surfaces in the catchment of river Visocica is possible, taking into account natural characteristics of the area, education and tradition of inhabitants. Catchment area of river Visocica provides water for water-supply reservoir Zavoj, so it is very important to apply erosion control measures on the slopes, as well as stopping the eroded material and pollutants before reaching the water courses. Agroforestry is optimal system of land use, with indispensable conservation and protective measures.

2003
Boreli-Zdravkovic, Dj. | Radenkovic, Z. (Institut za vodoprivredu "Jaroslav Cerni", Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro))
Concentrations of nitrate above defined levels for portable water are present in most of the groundwater sources in Velika Morava river alluvion. Some problems exists in Meminac and Kljuc, groundwater sources of Pozarevac town. Some detail investigations were organized in 2002. Survey of groundwater quality in the wide surrounding of Kljuc confirmed some earlier made assumptions about influence of agriculture and sewage water, and their contribution to existing groundwater quality.

2003
Vuksanovic, N. (Institut za biologiju mora, Kotor (Serbia and Montenegro))
Investigations of phytoplankton were done in the shallow Montenegrin coastal sea during the period from June to December, 2002. These investigations were the continuation from the preceding years. The main intention was to establish the impact of eutrophication to the quantity and composition of phytoplankton i.e. to establish the difference between areas in the bay and outside the bay. Like is previous years, the highest quantities of phytoplankton - microphytoplankton above all, were found in the area of the Boka Kotorska Bay (in Kotor Bay), Montenegro (Serbia&Montenegro). In July, 2.1 x 10**6 cells/cubic dm were found with dominant species Leptocylindrus minimus represented with 1.4 x 10**6 cells/cubic dm. In the area outside the Bay of Boka Kotorska, exposed to the impact of the open sea, values were significantly lower. In front of Budva, maximum was 1.7 x 10**5 cells/cubic dm in July. At locality exposed to the influence of the river Bojana (brackish water), similar values were established, except in October when 1.1 x 10**6 cells/cubic dm were found.

2003
Jovanovic, D. (Fakultet zastite na radu, Nis (Serbia and Montenegro)) | Pavlovic, D. (JKP za vodovod i kanalizaciju "Naissus", Nis (Serbia and Montenegro))
There have been given research results of quantitative and qualitative indices of communal and industrial waste waters of Nis. The research was carried out by the Institute "Jaroslav Cerni" (group of authors) and JKP "Naissus" (4) with the goal of defining as reliable parameters as possible in order to draw up plans for a central wastewater cleansing plant in Nis, as well as several necessary treatments of the industrial waste waters. There have been presented quantities, load and expected load of the total waste water, basic characteristics of urban and natural recipient, waste water influence on the river Nisava and needed degree of cleansing.

2003
Lokoska, L. | Jordanoski, M. | Mitic, V. | Patceva, S. | Veljanoska-Sarafiloska, E. (Hidrobioloski zavod, Ohrid (The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia))
The aim of this work is to confirm water quality of the littoral zone of Lake Ohrid at tourist locations during the tourist season 2002. Water quality is presented through following microbiological and chemical parameters: number of psychrophilic and mesophilic heterotrophic bacteria, urolitic bacteria, most probable number of total coliforms (MPN), indicators for fecal pollution (Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens), chlorophyll a, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand for five days (BOD5), organic loading and total nitrogen.

2003
Bobic, M. | Zaric, I. (Institut za vode d.o.o., Bijeljina, Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina))
In scope of complex physical-chemical and biological examination of water quality of the Bocac lake, the river Vrbas and tributaries Ugar and Crna Rijeka, examinations of phytoplankton and zooplankton were performed during 2002 (March-November). In qualitative structure of phytoplankton 7 division were registered, with 93 taxa from 49 genera in total. In warmer period extreme domination have fire algae (Pyrrophyta). In zooplankton structure (Rotatoria, Cladocera, Copepoda) 78 taxa were registered from 36 genera, with distinct domination of Rotatoria group. According to saprobiological analysis species of olligo- and beta-mesosaprobic character are prevailing.

2003
Talevska, M. (Hidrobioloski zavod, Ohrid (The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia))
In this paper investigations of biomass of red head grass Potamogeton perfolitus L. from Lake Ohrid were presented. The material was collected from 2 localities along the Ohrid Lake's coast (Grasnica and Kaneo), where anthropogenic influence is different expressed. The results from the investigations show that there are differences in biomass between investigated localities.

Vasiljevic, M. (Institut za zastitu zdravlja Srbije "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut", Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro)) | Maljevic, E. | Karadzic, V. | Vasiljevic, V. | Nikic, Z.
According to the plans, the town of Gacko tends to be water supplied from the water reservoir Vrba located at the river Vrba. About 150 to 200 m away is located ash basin. All ash basin area is oriented to the water reservoir and leaking water going directly to the water reservoir. The leaking water has high pH value, alkalinity, high content of sodium, potassium and sulphates. There are some heavy metals, but their concentrations are not significant. The influence of those contaminated water on the lake water quality is only little evident because of the high dilution rate.

2003
Cakic, B. | Popovic, L. | Ljuboja, M. | Svrkota, D. (Institut za vodoprivredu "Jaroslav Cerni", Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro))
Membrane processes is gaining broad application in potable water treatment. Experience in application of membrane system for treatment of potable water so far showed that these systems have wide range of advantages versus conventional treatment: lower capital costs, lower operation costs, use of chemicals is minimal; space for installation is much smaller, usage of chlorine for disinfection is minimal due to significant reduction of microorganisms; sludge production during the process is smaller due to smaller usage of chemicals, construction period is shorter due to smaller scope of works and relatively simply installation of membrane batteries.
