Shelf-Life Evaluation of a Novel Functional Product from a Blend of Powdered Vegetables النص الكامل

Perishable fresh vegetables that do not meet cosmetic standards and other crop waste rich resources are presently wasted. Mangifera indica leaves, Psidium guajava leaves, Petroselinum crispum leaves and Daucus carota were selected as model vegetables to show that they can be converted into a shelf-stable novel functional powdered product. A novel functional product from a blend of these powdered vegetables (FPPV) was formulated. To evaluate the shelf-life of FPPV. The novel functional product from a blend of powdered vegetables (FPPV) was prepared in the Food Science and Nutrition laboratory, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, India. The samples were subjected to accelerated stability study maintaining temperature and relative humidity 40°C ± 2°C and 75% ± 5% respectively. Organoleptic, physico‑chemical and microbiological properties of FPPV was analyzed at an interval of 0, 1, 3 and 6 months to check the degradation levels in the formulation. Organoleptic characters showed no significant changes in accelerated stability condition. There were insignificant changes in physico-chemical profiles and product was free from microbial contamination at different intervals of analysis. On extrapolation of the observations the shelf-life of FPPV was found to be 51 months (4 years and 3 months) for climatic zone I & II countries and 34 months (2 years and 10 months) for climatic zone III & IV countries, respectively. The conversion of perishable vegetables and crop wastes into shelf-stable functional food products will reduce food loss and waste in the vegetable industry.

This study was carried out on 114 Brown Swiss cattle reared in intensive conditions at Ataturk University Food and Livestock Application and Research Center and at the private cattle farm found in Erzurum province. Genotypic structures were examined in terms of Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II gene locus and the distribution of genotypes and allele frequencies of the cattle concerning the genes were determined. The identified Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II genotypes were associated with milk yield traits such as actual milk yield, 305-day, and daily milk yield. Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II genotypes were determined by using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)- Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method from blood samples taken from the cattle. The CC, CT, and TT genotype frequencies of the Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II gene found in the population were 41 (34%), 65 (54%), and 14 (12%), and the frequency of the C allele and the T allele was found to be 0.61 and to be 0.39. The general averages of actual true milk yield, 305-day and daily milk yield were 4317±272.9 kg, 5277±240.7 kg and 18±0.9 kg, respectively, while CC, CT and TT genotypes 4168±515.8, 3756±321.7 and 5382±600.3 kg, respectively. As a result, correctly identified IGF-II genotypes were detected by using the PCR-RFLP method in the blood samples obtained from Brown Swiss cattle. Genotype and allele frequencies determined for IGF-II gene polymorphism can be considered sufficient to demonstrate the genotype diversity of the race. According to the Hardy-Weinberg genetic equilibrium test, the distribution of genotype frequencies of the cattle was observed in equilibrium.

This study, which was carried out in 2014-2015 to determine the agronomic characteristics of some chickpea lines and varieties under Şanlıurfa ecological conditions, was conducted in the experimental trial areas of GAP Agricultural Research Institute. 20 registered chickpea genotypes and 3 control varieties were used in the study, which was established according to the randomized block design with three replications. In the study, phenological traits such as the number of days until flowering after 50% emergence, the number of days until pod tying, the number of days after emergence and vegetation duration and agronomic traits such as plant height, first pod height, days to maturity, one hundred grain weight and yield per decare were examined in chickpea plants. During the study, Ascochyta blight disease controls of chickpea varieties were also carried out depending on the climatic conditions. In the study, the highest grain yield was obtained from Işık (181.65 kg/da) variety and the lowest grain yield was obtained from Uzunlu variety (108.34 kg/da) at Şanlıurfa location. In terms of both growing seasons, the highest average protein analysis values were obtained from Yaşa variety with 25.77% and the lowest from İnci variety wıth22.02%.

Non-porous materials like cellulose and starch can be extracted from agro- industrial wastes and incorporated with nanoparticles for effective biotechnological purposes. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNps), silver-cellulose nanoparticles (AgNps-C) and silver-starch nanoparticles (AgNps-S) were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to identify viable biomolecules involved in capping and active stabilization of AgNps. Average sizes and morphologies of AgNps, AgNps-C and AgNps-S were further analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the percentage composition of each element was investigated by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Antimicrobial activity of the synthesized AgNPs-C and AgNPs-S was tested against multiple antibiotic resistance microorganisms isolated from fish and meat. Zones of inhibition displayed by AgNPs-C and AgNPs-S ranged from 8.00 to 13.30 mm and 5.00 to 10.30 mm, respectively. The Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for AgNPs-C and AgNPS-S ranged from 125 µg/mL to 500 µg/mL and 500 µg/mL to 1000 µg/mL, respectively. AgNPS-S and AgNPs-C inhibited the growth of microorganisms associated with spoilage of fish and meat. The bio-applications of AgNP –C and AgNP-S can be exploited in food industries as preservative agent or incorporated to packaging materials to elongate the shelf life of food products and reduce the side effects attributed to chemical preservative agents.

In this study, it was aimed to make a breakfast spreadable Cornelian cherry nectar similar to marmalade. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DA100 strain, which has potential probiotic properties, was added to this nectar. It was investigated whether this strain has an effect on various sensory properties of nectar. In the study, sensory and various chemical properties of nectar produced without probiotic microorganism were determined. Since the breakfast spreadable Cornelian cherry nectar produced in our study was not exposed to high temperatures for a long time, a very low HMF of 4.290 mg/kg was determined. Vitamin C was determined as 716.800 mg/L and total phenolic content was determined as 3156.64 mg GAE/100g. In the probiotic group, the microorganism viability, which was 1.5×1010 Log CFU/mL initially, was determined below approximately 1.5×106 Log CFU/mL at the end of 5 days. In addition, coliform bacteria and E. coli were not detected in any group during this period. Contrary to the texture score, the difference between the sensory evaluation results of the probiotic-added and the control group of breakfast spreadable Cornelian cherry nectar was significant in taste, bitterness, odor and sourness. An alternative to jams and marmalades, rich in vitamin C and phenolic content, limited HMF production, and a functional product with low sugar content were tried to be obtained, and when the results obtained are evaluated, the product is thought to be promising.

Bu çalışma Ankara ili merkez ilçelerinde ikamet eden (Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak, Pursaklar, Sincan ve Yenimahalle) tüketicilerin keçi eti ve et ürünlerine karşı olan algılarını belirlemek ve bu ürünlerin tüketiminde etkili olan faktörlerin belirlenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaçla 269 tüketiciyle yüz yüze anketler gerçekleştirilerek tüketicilerin sosyo-ekonomik ve demografik özellikleri, keçi eti ve et ürünleri tüketmeye ve satın almaya yönelik davranışları incelenmiştir. Araştırma bulguları ki kare istatistik yöntemi ve çapraz tablo ile analiz edilmiştir. Ankete katılan tüketicilerin %82,2’sinin keçi eti ve et ürünlerini tüketmediği %17,8’inin ise tükettiği belirlenmiştir. Tüketiciler tarafından keçi eti ürünü olarak en çok kuşbaşı (%16,7) ve kıyma (%13,8) tüketildiği ve aylık keçi kuşbaşı ve keçi kıyması tüketim miktarlarının sırasıyla; 0,20 ve 0,17 kg olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan ki kare analizi sonucunda tüketicilerin demografik özellikleriyle keçi eti ve et ürünleri tüketimi arasındaki ilişkinin istatistik olarak önemli olmadığı fakat erkek, evli,18-45 yaş aralığında ve eğitim düzeyi yüksek bireylerin keçi eti tüketme eğilimlerinin daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte kurban kesme eğilimiyle keçi eti tüketimi arasındaki ilişkinin önemli olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Keçi eti ve et ürünleri tüketici tercih ve algısının arttırılmasına yönelik yapılacak olan tanıtım çalışmalarında bu özelliklerin dikkate alınması daha etkili sonuçlar elde edilmesine neden olacaktır.

Böcekler, birçok farklı habitata uyum sağlayabilen en başarılı türlerden biridir. Böceklerin bu özelliği onların evrimsel açıdan güçlü becerilerini göstermektedir. Şimdiye kadar tanımlanan türlerin yaklaşık %80’inden fazlası Insecta’ya aittir. DNA dizisi teknolojisindeki gelişmeler ve düşük maliyet, araştırmacıların birçok böcek türünün tüm genomlarını dizilemesine izin verdi. Karşılaştırmalı genomik yaklaşımı, böceklerin hızlı ve başarılı adaptasyonunun altında yatan moleküler ve evrimsel mekanizmaları ortaya çıkarmak için güçlü araçlardan biridir. Protein aileleri ve kopya sayıları, türlerin evrimsel ihtiyaçlarını ortaya çıkarmak için kilit faktörlerden biridir. Farklı böcek taksonları kullanılarak böcek evrimi üzerine çeşitli çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Bununla birlikte, bu çalışmalar gen ailesinin evrimi ve filogenetik ilişkilere odaklandı. Bu çalışmada, protein familyalarını ve bunların kopya sayılarını ve böceklerdeki varyasyonlarını belirlemek için yirmi böcek türünün genomları incelenmiştir. Ruta montana L. is an annual aromatic plant of the family rutaceae. Quantitative analysis of the methanolic crude extract of Ruta montana L. yielded 8.43%, whereas the qualitative analysis revealed the presence of alkaloid or coumarin. The Litchfield and Wilcoxon method calculated the LD50 of the crude methanolic extract of Ruta montana L. in Wistar albino female rats at 393.18 mg/kg. This allows the plant to be classified as moderately toxic. The subacute toxicity study of the methanolic crude extract of Ruta montana L. in female Wistar albino rats treated with 100 mg/kg (≈ 1/4 LD50) and intraperitoneally showed a significant increase in body weight of the rats treated at the 4th week. Animals treated and sacrificed after 30 days showed a disturbance of the relative mass of the organs. Biochemical parameters of hepatic function assessment showed a significant increase in PAL with elevation of AST and ALT, whereas those of renal function revealed a significant decrease in creatinine with an increase in urea. Hematologic parameters recorded a decrease in RBC, HGB and HCT. The histological sections of the treated rats reveal the existence of blood congestion in the central veins and liver tissues, foci of necrosis and steatosis in the liver, blood congestion and some glomerular atrophy in the kidneys, as well as blood congestions and developed follicles without oocytes in the ovaries.

Bu çalışmada, dahlia tohumlarına 0, 25, 50 ve 100 ppm dozlarında paclobutrazol uygulaması yapılmıştır. Paclobutrazol ‘un sağladığı olası geciktirici etkilerini ortadan kaldırmak amacıyla fidelerin saksılara dikiminden 1 hafta sonra 0, 100 ve 200 ppm dozlarında yapraktan püskürtülerek GA3 uygulaması yapılmıştır. Çalışma sonunda, fide döneminde, fide boyunda (5,08 cm) ve çimlenme oranında (%80,56) 25 ppm paclobutrazol uygulaması kontrole göre (4,68 cm-%67,59) iyi sonuçlar göstermiştir. Paclobutrazol dozları arttıkça belirtilen parametrelerde düşüşler yaşanmıştır. İkinci aşamada ise, paclobutrazol uygulamaları yapılmamış olup tohumdan uygulanan paclobutrazol ile yetiştirilen fidelere GA3 uygulaması yapılmıştır. Paclobutrazol uygulamaları yapılan ancak GA3 uygulanması bulunmayan fidelerin bitki gelişimi açısından istatistiksel farklılıklar çıkmamasına rağmen 50 ppm paclobutrazol uygulaması bitki boyu (47,87 cm) ve bitki gövde çapında (6,55 mm), 0 ppm paclobutrazol uygulaması kök yaş ağırlığı (7,02 g) ve 50 ppm paclobutrazol uygulaması ise kök uzunluğunda (22,70 cm) en iyi sonuçları göstermiştir. Farklı konsantrasyonlardaki GA3 uygulamalarında ise 100 ppm GA3 uygulaması diğer uygulamalara kıyasla bitki gelişimi açısından en iyi sonuçları vermiştir. Paclobutrazol ve GA3 uygulamalarının kombine edilmesiyle bitki gelişiminde ağırlıklı olarak 50 ppm paclobutrazol ve 100 ppm GA3 uygulamaları daha etkili olmuştur. Fidenin büyüme ve çiçeklenme açısından boy kontrolünde 25 ppm paclobutrazol kullanılabileceği, kaliteli bitki gelişimi ve olası geciktirici etkileri ortadan kaldırmak için 100 ppm GA3 uygulanması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in herbal remedies for therapeutic purposes. Aromatic plants have become a significant source of raw materials for the fragrance, food, and cosmetics industries. Additionally, the emergence of new applications and the trend towards natural nutrition and alternative healing methods, often referred to as "going natural," have increased the interest in medicinal and aromatic plants in our country, as well as in other countries around the world. In this study were investigated to determine yield and quality characteristics of seven different lavender (Lavandula intermedia Emeric ex Loisel. = L. hybrida L.) (Grasso, Süper-A, Seguret, Dutch, Abrial, Akmeşe, English) cultivars under dry and irrigated cultivation in Kahramanmaraş conditions between 2019 and 2020. The research was carried out in a randomized block design with 4 replications. Fresh stem flower yield was the highest variety Grasso(672.81kg/da). The lowest fresh stem flower yield was found in Seguret variety with 611.33kg/da The highest dry stemless flower yield was determined in Grasso variety with 59,66 kg/da. There were significant differences determined between cultivars the end of 2 years. The highest average fresh stem flower yield (693.067 kg/da) and the highest average dry branched flower yield (252.588 kg/ha) were measured in GRASSO variety.
