An experiment was carried out from September to November 2001 in the greenhouse of the Plant Science Departament of Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, to evaluate the use of different organic composts on growing of bell pepper seedlings. The experimental design used was of group balanced blocks with four replications. The groups of composts tested were: Plantmax, compost of cashew tree leaves and mixed compost. Within each group of compost was tested a mixture with sandy and/or soil. The cultivar of bell pepper used was All Big. Evaluations were made for number of leaves per plant, plant height, shoot fresh and dry matter, root length and root fresh and dry matter taken 25 days after sowing. Pure organic composts had the best performance on the growing of the bell pepper seedlings than those in mixture with sand and/on soil. Seedlings had better quality as cultivated in pure organic composts as compared to those in commercial substrate Plantimax.

The goal of the present study was to evaluate the nutritional state of ten arboreal plants occurring at Paraíba's Semi-Árido aiming to contribute to the nutritional diagnosis of Caatinga's species, advice on soil fertilization and the resulting betterment of environmental quality in those areas. To this end, leaves and twigs samples of the species angico(Piptadenia macrocarpa Benth), aroeira (Astronium urundeuva Engl), umbueiro (Spondias tuberosa Arruda) mofumbo(Combretum leprosum Mart.), pereiro (Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart), pau d' arco (Tabebuia serratifolia Nichols.), marmeleiro (Croton sonderianus Mull. Arg.), craibeira (Tabebuia caraiba Mart. Burt.), tamboril (Enterolobium contortisiqua Mart.) and umburana (Torresia cearensis) were taken for the essaying of these species nutritional state. The collected material was firstly dried and grinded to determine the levels of macronutrients N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S and micronutrients, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn. The results evinced that the evaluated species showed comparable levels of macro andmicronutrients, when confronted with the nutritional diagnosis of other arboreal species.

An experiment was carried out, in order to evaluate the saline aspect of the substrate with biofertilizer on seedling formation of yellow passion fruit irrigated with different saline water. A completely randomized design was used, with treatments distributed in a factorial arrangement 5 x 3 x 2, referring to water salinity levels (0.5; 1.0; 2.0; 3.0 and 4,0 dS m-1), substrate volumes (1, 2 and 3 L), in absence and presence of biofertilizer bovine. The following variables were registered at the end of the experiment: pH, electrical conductivity of water and exchangeable sodium percentage. The increase of irrigation water salinity, independently of biofertilizer use, drastically enhanced the substrate salinity, from not saline to saline and strongly saline. No there was definition of the values of PST among substrate volumes. Electrical conductivity values of the saturation extract were higher for substrate with lower volume.

This work has objective estimates the heritability and the phenotypic correlations between characteristics of bulb and plant of lineages of multiple-onion half-sib families as subsidy for programs of improvement for the conditions northeast. One field experiment with radonmized complete blocks and with 14 half-sib families and three replications, were carried out. The greatest heritability coefficient was expressed by bulb number per plant. The high heritability obtained from the character number of bulbs for plant can compensate the low associations with the yield before and after cure, respectively, what it makes with that that characteristic can be used in the indirect selection for yield. The longitudinal diameter is a characteristic that can be used for indirect selection aiming at to increase the yield after cure of multiple onion. It is possible to obtain success with the selection for the traits number of bulbs for plant, height of the aerial part, longitudinal diameter, traversal diameter, format index, content of total soluble solids and productivity after the cure. The estimates of simple correlations evidence that is possible to obtain desirable recombinants individuals with high productivity and quality of bulbs.

To the evaluate the different alternative foods identify like an agroindustrial by-products through on the total apparent digestibility and digestible nutrients determinations five Criole adult horses were housed in individual metabolism cages. From the reference diet (DR) contained peletized ration and tifton-85 hay, was made the substitution in 30% with weight basis (kg/kg) for each one of the agro industrial by-products, soybean residue (RS), soybean hulls (CS), wheat hulls (CT) and corn hulls (CM). In the digestibility obtained with each one of the alternative foods, the best values were obtained with CT (45.31% crude protein), with RS (78.86% ethereal extract), with CS (82.53% neutral detergent fiber), with CS (85.75% acid detergent fiber), CM (96.92 % non structural carbohydrate), CM (57.18 % total carbohydrate) e CS (57.67 % crude energy). In the determination of nutritional value with each one of the alternative foods, the best values were obtained with CT (7.53 % DCP), RS (5.11 % DEE), CS (53.04 % DNDF), CS (40.77 % DADF), CT (35.82 % DNSC), CM (48.12 % DTC), CM (2101 DEB kcal/kg). It was suggest that all alternative foods tested in this study can be used in the feeding horse, more over, the inclusion level and combination of these by-products in the diets to maximize feed efficiency and mantence of the digestive tract health will be depend on the readiness and regional cost.

The techniques of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are of great importance for the study, conservation and management of natural resources, which facilitate to understand the dynamic processes of the nature. The present study was made in the region of Agreste Paraibano which includes the municipalities of Puxinanã and Pocinhos. The Land use and Land cover mapping was done. The satellite Data of Landsat-TM/5, of May 08 of 2002 were used for this study, was made using of the Software Erdas Imagine 8.3.1, for the Maximum Likelihood classification (Supervised Classification). Under this interpretation the total eight classed were identified: Water/Humid Area (9.9Km2), Caatinga Forest 1 (49.5Km2), Caatinga Forest 2 (26.4Km2), Traditional Agriculture Land (69.3Km2), Pasture Land (52.8Km2), Subsistencial Agriculture Land (59.4Km2), Rocky Out Crops/Urban Area (23.1Km2) and Barren Land (39.6Km2), with covers approximately the area of 330Km2. The Accuracy Assesstment was found 100% for Water/Humid Area, 94.80% for Caatinga Forest 1, 93.21% for Caatinga Forest 2, 74.39% for Traditional Agriculture Land, 79.26% for Pasture , 77.67% for Subsistencial Agriculture , 100% for Rocky Out Crop/Urban Area and 75.01% for the Barren Land respectively. The average accuracy assesstment was found of 81,02%, with demonstrated the best accuracy for our classification. It was also found that the Pasture land class need some adequate management practices for the proper use of natural resources. The principal limitations for the classes of the Traditional Agriculture land , Pasture land and Subsistence Agriculture land were found, are: lack of water, surface rockiness and susceptibility of the erosion. The classes of Savanna 1 (Caatinga Forest 1) and Savanna 2 (Caatinga Forest 2), are recommended essentially for the use of preservation fauna and flora, or if possible may be for the sustainable use of the natural resources.

Were evaluated five soybean genotypes of precocious, average and tardy cycles' in greenhouse UESPI/Parnaíba-PI in the agricultural year 2005/06. The adopted experimental delineation was the entirely randomized with four repetitions. Cultivars evaluated were cultivated in plastic vases with five 5kg of soil. Significant differences among cultivars for the height plant characters in the bloom were not observed and height of insert of the first pod. Regarding the number of days' for the bloom and maturation highlights to cultivate BRS Sambaíba who introduced reduction of cycle. BRS Tracajá introduced larger number of pod for plant not differing significantly of cultivars Sambaíba and Babaçu. For the characteristic weight of a hundred seeds to cultivate Candeia showed better a phenotypic behavior to the too much cultivars not differing statistically just to cultivate Babaçu. All the evaluated genotypes of this leguminous answered to photoperiod terms in Parnaíba-PI's Municipal district.

The decrease in pore that are submitted to the certain pressure, causes an increase soil bulk density, causing the compactação process, affecting the ideal development of crop root system. Consequently the present study has as obejective to evaluate the effects of different compaction levels in two soils with differrent textural classes on the yilol of aerial biomass and root of radish. The experiment was carried out in a green house at the, UFRPE, where two samples of soils from 0-20 cm with the following textural classes: sand clay loan (NITOSSOLO) compacted to bulk densities of 1,05; 1,26 and 1,47 g cm-3 and sandy (PLANOSSOLO) compacted to densities of 1,54; 1,76 and 1,98 g cm-3. A severe reduction was observed in the production of bulbs a function of the levels compaction where in the sand clay loan texture there was no development of the bulbs in the density of 1,47 g cm-3, differing from at observed in the sandy texture soil, where the largest density (1,98 g cm-3), showed development of the bulbs. The compaction in subsurface alters the distribution of the root system of he crop along the profile of the soils, without decrease in the production of roots.
