D. Kaimowitz, 'Cuatro medio verdales: la relacion bosques y agua en Centroamericana', 2001 | This paper looks at four “half-truths” about the relations between forests and water in Central America. The first is that deforestation has reduced rainfall in certain regions of Central America. The second is that forest help to maintain dry season stream flow. The third is that deforestation has led to more intense flooding. The fourth is that the region’s hydroelectric reservoirs and the Panama Canal are rapidly becoming sedimented. As the name implies, the article argues that each of these has some elements of truth but other aspects that are myths. The author emphasizes that even though some of these claims are myths action still needs to be taken to avoid inappropriate deforestation and forest degradation

This work shows the results obtained from the cooperation project between the Chamber of the Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Industry and El Bosque University. Here is showed the water footprint calculation for the companies of the Chamber, specifically for bond, kraft and soft paper types under the guidelines of the NTC ISO 14046 of 2017. To this end, the parameters required by the Standard were identified, organizing the development of this work in three phases. The first phase consisted in determining the requirements that the standard demands; the second phase in the creation of an inventory matrix and the corresponding collection of information (primary and secondary) and the last phase was the development of the water footprint calculation along with its proper interpretation and analysis through water impact indicators by type of paper. In this way, a calculation model was created, through which the water footprint was obtained for each company in terms of scarcity, consumption and degradation, and specifically, for each type of paper. Thus, a global result was generated for the Chamber, in which new strategies for the integral management of the water resource are dimensioned. | Cámara de la Industria de Pulpa Papel y Cartón de la ANDI | Centro Nacional de Producción Más Limpia | Centro Nacional del Agua | Ingeniero Ambiental | Pregrado | El presente trabajo muestra los resultados obtenidos del proyecto de cooperación entre la Cámara de la Industria de Pulpa, Papel y Cartón y la Universidad El Bosque. Aquí se evidencia el cálculo de huella de agua para las empresas de la Cámara, específicamente para los tipos de papel bond, kraft y suaves bajo los lineamientos de la Norma NTC ISO 14046 de 2017. Para tal fin, se identificaron los parámetros que la mencionada Norma exige, organizando el desarrollo del presente trabajo en tres fases. La primera fase consistió en la determinación de los requisitos que la Norma exige; la segunda fase en la creación de una matriz de inventario y la correspondiente recopilación de información (primaria y secundaria) y la última fase fue el desarrollo del cálculo de huella de agua junto con su debida interpretación y análisis por medio de indicadores de impacto al agua por tipo de papel. De esta manera, se creó un modelo de cálculo, a través del cual se obtuvo la huella de agua para cada empresa en términos de la escasez, consumo y degradación, y en específico, por cada tipo de papel. Así se generó un resultado global para la Cámara, en el que se dimensionan nuevas estrategias para la gestión integral del recurso hídrico.
