Prolonged exposure of human and animal organisms to carbon dioxide can cause chronic poisoning, various diseases, and reduction in productivity. The normative permitted content of carbon dioxide in the indoor air of cattle premises is 0.25 %. Carbon dioxide emission from cattle manure when removed by a scraper-chain conveyor was studied in a typical barn for 200 head with the tied housing system, natural ventilation and 11 t• dE-1 manure output. The study included continuous measurements of carbon dioxide concentration before, during and after manure removal. In the experiment, CO2 concentration was measured just above the manure canal and in the opposite ends of the barn – near the milk collecting unit and manure accumulation tank with the un loading conveyor. For study purposes IEEP designed a mobile unit for microclimate monitoring. The study revealed that during manure removal, which lasted for 15-17 minutes, the CO2 concentration increased 1.3 to 1.5 times in different parts of the barn. When manure removal was completed, the concentration of carbon dioxide decreased and after 6 to 10 minutes, returned to initial values. This short-term increase in CO2 concentration, even in case the permissible values were slightly exceeded, was not dangerous for the animal care personnel and had no adverse effect on animals and their productivity. The study revealed the dependences of CO2 emissions; relevant mathematical models were created.

Research on BAT for intensive pig rearing showed that manure utilisation is the most sensitive and important element of any relevant technology. Formation of the manure utilisation technology includes the following steps: to identify the most applied practices by the decomposition method and block-hierarchical scheme; to create a mathematical model of pig manure utilisation, which includes characteristics of pig manure, utilisation techniques, machines and equipment for manure handling, and characteristics of produced organic fertilizer; to determine the most effective technology; to make a list of optional combinations of machines and equipment; to compare the obtained values in all combinations by the sound indicators using the Pareto method. The described procedure was tested on a pig complex with the complete pig rearing cycle with the average stock of 16,500 heads and manure humidity of 93 %. The most effective technology for this pig complex was found to be separation of manure into fractions with the subsequent processing of the solid fraction by passive composting and the biological treatment of the liquid fraction in an aeration tank and batch-type sett ling tanks. This technology features the following values of the main indicators: utilisation costs of one ton of pig manure with due account for nitrogen loss 1.99 thousand roubles per t, ecological and economic effect of the technology use and organic fertilizer application is 10463.6 thousand roubles per t and economic efficiency of BAT introduction 3495.7 thousand roubles per t. The technology indicators may be slightly improved if composting is replaced by bio-fermentation in closed installation s and if the hose injection systems are used for clarified liquid application. In this case the costs are lower by 5-7 % and the effectiveness of BAT introduction is lower by 2-3 %.

Modern livestock farms feature a large number of animals and subsequent significant environmental load. The biggest negative impact is on the atmosphere and on water bodies, with manure being the major pollution source. The proper choice of an effective low-cost manure handling technology with low nutrient loss ensures the environmentally sound operation of these farms. Manure utilization is understood as a set of activities, including manure processing, manure storage (if necessary) and soil application of produced organic fertilizers. It is important to deal The article considers the nitrogen loss during manure utilization depending on such factors as type of manure processing, manure storage conditions, soil application practices, moisture content of raw manure, nitrogen-carbon ratio in the raw manure, and quality of the staff. To identify the dependence of nitrogen loss from these factors a method of logical-linguistic modelling was applied, by which the expert data were formalized in a mathematical model. In view of the differences of processes, which take place during the storage and processing of liquid and solid manure, two models were considered - for liquid manure with the moisture content is greater than 92 % and solid manu re with the moisture content is less than or equal 92 %. The analysis of the coefficients of the obtained equations showed the significance of each factor and their mutual dependence. Most significant factors were the type of manure processing and the soil application method. The simulation study results were compared with the values obtained by measurements on operating farms, with the maximum inaccuracy being 5.35 %. The obtained equations may be used for express calculation of nitrogen loss and to forecast the variations of nitrogen loss under different manure handling technologies.

DETERMINANTS FOR LIQUID BIOFUELS PRODUCTION IN POLAND AFTER 2006 – MODEL APPROACH
2017
Michał Borychowski
Liquid biofuels from agricultural raw materials (mainly cereals and oilseeds) are produced in Poland on an industrial scale since 2005. Poland, implementing guidelines for the energy policy of the European Union, is committed to ensure the share of liquid biofuels in the total fuel consumption in transport in at least 10% by 2020. The development of liquid biofuels market is therefore dependent on the one hand on institutional factors (legal and administrative regulations), and on the other hand, primarily on the situation of agricultural raw materials markets (supply-demand relationships and prices) and macroeconomic factors, mainly crude oil prices. The aim of the paper is empirical identification of determinants for the production of liquid biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel) in Poland. For this purpose there were built two econometric models based on multiple regression, indicating exactly which factors contribute to the increase or decrease in the production of liquid biofuels. For the bioethanol production importance are mainly sales of bioethanol, the variables concerning the cereals market (prices, purchase and export) and macroeconomic factors – interest rate, GDP growth rate (change) and USD / PLN exchange rate. Important determinants for the biodiesel production include total sale of biodiesel, production of rapeseed oil, import of rapeseed and vegetable oils (rapeseed oil and palm oil) and their prices, as well as crude oil prices, which represent the macroeconomic environment.
