Vegetative propagation methods for Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) improvement
2001
Redei, K. | Osvath-Bujtas, Z. (Forest Research Institute, Budapest (Hungary)) | Balla, I. (Research Institute for Fruit Growing and Ornamentals, Budapest (Hungary))
Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) is one of the most important stand-forming tree species in Hungary and its importance is increasing in many countries. The primary requirement for reproducing black locust clones (cultivars) for setting up seed orchards and wood production was to develop reliable vegetative metods. Propagation from root cuttings and tissue culture propagation are sustainable for reproduction of superior individuals or varieties. By applying these methods, superior traits of the selected trees can be preserved in the clones. Rapid clonal micropropagation has been achieved using shoot cultures. It is possible to produce about ten thousand plantlets in one year from one hundred shoots with eighty percent plantlet survival rate.

Experience and recommendations for greenhouse growing of grafted tomatoes
2001
Loczi, J.
Introduction, application and spreading of every new management programme raise several questions. Correct answers may be given only if we monitor and control the whole procedure by continuous checking (instruments, measuring, nutrient analyses, etc.). It especially holds true for greenhouse growing of vegetables propagated by grafting. The more answers we get to the arising questions, the better we can adjust the models to our conditions and the safer the profitability of growing from grafts will be.

Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin lihaluujauhon rehuarvoa lihasikojen ruokinnassa. | Six barrows, with an average initial body weight of 88 kg, were used in a digestibility and balance experiment to study the nutritive value of meat and bone meal (MBM). The MBM, which contained 478 g crude protein and 322 g ash/kg dry matter (DM), was included in barley-based diets at two levels: 100 and 200 g/kg. The experiment was conducted according to a two-period reversal design. The apparent digestibilities of organic matter, crude protein and crude fat in the MBM wore 0.910, 0.909 and 0.730, respectively. The MBM was calculated to contain 434 g digestible crude protein, 14.26 MJ metabolizable energy and 8.82 MJ net energy/kg DM. The efficiency of nitrogen utilization decreased with an increasing MBM supply. Due to relatively high mineral intakes, the apparent digestibilities of calcium and phosphorus remained low. | v | ok | Lihaluurehujauhon ravitsemuksellinen arvo lihasikojen ruokinnassa

[Finish Junior - a complete dry feed for puppies and growing dogs]
2001
Tluchor, V. (Veterinarni Klinika, Pardubice (Czech Republic))
A new Czech complete feed for puppies called Finish Junior was tested at the veterinary clinic Pardubice. Eighteen puppies were chosen for the experiment and divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 6 puppies 15 days old with mother. They were fed Finish Junior ad libitum as a supplement when suckling and 4 times a day after weaning. The second group consisted of 12 puppies of different breeds 2-3 months old and fed 4 times a day. The feed was very well accepted by the animals, their growth was good and no complications were observed. The feed quality is comparable to that of the foreign feeds. It can fully assure the good development of the puppies in the most critical phase of their nutrition, i.e. between 2 and 6 months of age.

Khristov, I. (Institut po Pochvoznanie "N. Pushkarov", Sofia (Bulgaria))
Scientific basis for soil water and plant nutrients management is developed. New index and method for estimating the soil-crop water status as a whole for the growing season is used. Equations to calculate the N, P and K fertilizing rates, corresponding to specific soil-crop water status created, are offered. The application of the basis leads to improved water-fertilizers use efficiency, multi-variant management and provides new opportunities for both the investigators and the farmers.
