Effect of 1B/1R Translocation on Selected Grain Quality Parameters in a Set of Doubled Haploid Wheat Lines

A set of quality parameters (crude protein content, Zeleny sedimentation test, wet gluten content, gluten index, albumins + globulins content, gliadin content, sum of glutenins, proportion of albumins + globulins in crude protein and relative viscosity) was tested in 17 doubled haploid (DH) wheat lines differing in the presence or absence of 1B/1R translocation. The presence of 1B/1R translocation (allele Gli 1B3) affected the significantly higher content of albumins and globulins and significantly lower value of gluten index. Nevertheless, a certain translocation influence on the other parameters (Zeleny sedimentation test; relative viscosity; proportion of albumins + globulins in crude protein) was also registered. The deteriorative effect of the 1B/1R translocation on indirect technological grain parameters was confirmed more markedly in gluten index than in Zeleny sedimentation test. A high number of significant differences between lines was found in Zeleny sedimentation test, content of glutenin, content of albumins + globulins and their proportion in crude protein. In spite of lower variability between lines relative viscosity showed a high dependence on genotype and was indifferent to the other quality parameters.

The effect of liming on cadmium, lead, and zinc uptake reduction by spring wheat grown in contaminated soil

For characterization of the ability of crops to reflect changing soil properties after the addition of ameliorative materials into the soil both pot and rhizobox experiments were provided. In the pot experiment, the influence of the addition of lime and limestone into contaminated Cambisol containing 7.14 mg Cd/kg, 2174 mg Pb/kg, and 270 mg Zn/kg on element availability for spring wheat was tested. The ameliorative materials were added into the pots containing 5 kg of soil in amount of 3 g CaO, and 5.36 g CaCO3 per kg of the soil. Soil pH reached up to 7.3 in lime treatments compared to 5.7 in control soil. Mobile portion of soil elements (0.01 mol/l CaCl2 extractable) dropped by 80% for Zn, 50% for Cd, and 20% for Pb, respectively. In both straw and grains of wheat reduced content of elements was observed in limed pots compared to the control ones. For a detailed characterization of the influence of root exudates on the strength of developed complexes in comparison with the bulk soil, short-term rhizobox experiment was set up under identical soil and lime treatments. Generally, the results of rhizobox experiment confirmed the findings from the pot experiment discussed above. Content of elements in shoots and roots of wheat dropped mainly in the case of Cd and Pb. Soil mobile portion of all three tested elements introduced clear depletion curve in control treatment, both limed treatments showed high stability of element complexes almost unaffected by wheat roots.

In order to evaluation and comparison of yield of promising bread cultivars and lines in farmers conditions, an experiment was carried out based on a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replication in Khorramabad in 2004/2005 cropping season. Results of this experiment showed that: there was not significantly between wheat lines and control treatment (chamran cultivar) , but the Duncan , s test showed that the highest grain yield was obtained from S-80-12 (7003 kg/ha) and S-80-18 (6897 kg/ha) lines . The lowest grain yield was obtained from chamran cultivar (control) with yield mean 6087 kg/ha.

In order to finding desirable bread wheat lines for warm region of Kermanshah province as replacement of Chamran cv., an on-farm study was conducted in two locations of farmer fields during 2006-2007 period. Five improved genotypes including Chamran cv. and S-78-11 line (as checks) was investigated by using a complete block randomized design with three replications. Plots were planted by hand at 400 seed/m2 density. The S-83-3 line was early maturing genotype. Chamran cv. had the highest thousand kernel weight (TKW). According to results of combine analysis of data, S-83-3 and S-83-4 lines produced 5.413 and 5.598 ton /ha respectively and selected for more study in extention studies to releasing as new cultivars of bread wheat for warm zone of Iran.

"The Uruguay Round Agreement on agriculture attempted to lower distortions in global agricultural markets. However, the significant fall in commodity prices in the late 1990s may have reduced the incentives for both developed and developing countries to better integrate into world markets. This study analyzes price linkages and adjustment between developed and developing countries during the post–Uruguay Round period. Prices of two key commodities, long-grain rice and medium-hard wheat, are assembled for major exporters and producers. Results of multivariate cointegration analysis suggest partial market integration between developed and developing countries in the post–Uruguay Round period. Developed countries are found to be price leaders in these two markets, and in most cases, changes in their prices have relatively large impacts on those of the developing countries.
