Efficacy of different doses of nitrogen on turfgrasses
2002
Ahmad, I.
The experiment was laid out according to randomized complete block design (RCBD) in split plot arrangement with four treatments replicated thrice. Treatments were OgN/m2/month, 10gN/m2/month, 20gN/m2/month and 30gN/m2/month, respectively and these were applied on two turf grass varieties namely Cynodon dactylon var. Dacca and Zoysia spp. locally known as Chinese during two different seasons i.e., autumn and spring. 30 gN/m2/month (T3) proved best, treatment in increasing the height of plant as compared to others Dacca grass (V1) has shown more plant height as compared to Chinese grass (V2). It was also noted that results were non-significant in case of seasons. For number of tillers, 30 gN/m2/month (T3) application proved significantly better as compared to other treatments, Chinese grass (V2) was found to be better variety. Moreover, number of tillers was comparatively more in spring than in autumn. Furthermore, regression equations indicated positive relationship with maximum increase in number of tillers in Dacca grass during spring season. As far as number of leaves per tiller was concerned 30 gN/m2/month (T3) showed significantly better results Dacca grass (V1) was found to be better variety. However, seasons presented similar effects on both grasses. In case of length of leaf blade, maximum results were obtained in 30 gN/m2/month (T3). Dacca grass (V1) presented long leaf blades as compared to Chinese grass (V2). Furthermore, during spring leaf blades were obtained long as compared to autumn. As far as rate of coverage was concerned, 30 gN/m2/month (T3) dominated. Overall other treatments whereas varietal behaviour regarding this factor of study has shown slightly significant differences. Far turf grass quality 30 gN/m2/month (T3) was found to be significantly better. In case of shoot fresh weight, 30 gN/m2/month (T3) presented best results (2.24) Dacca grass (V1) showed more shoot fresh weight. Regression equations indicated positive response of both grasses during both seasons with superiority of Dacca grass during spring. 30 gN/m2/month (T3) proved the best treatment in case of shoot dry-weight both varieties showed almost similar results. Regression equations for this parameter of study revealed better results of both grasses during spring. For stolons diameter, results revealed that 30 gN/m2/month (T3) showed maximum stolons diameter. Grasses were significantly different while seasons produced nearly same results. In case of leaf area, Dacca grass (V1) showed maximum leaf area whereas in case of treatments, 30 gN/m2/month (T3) presented best results. In spring leaf area was slightly more as compared to in autumn. Leaf N status was improved by increasing the level of nitrogen fertilizer. Finally, it can be concluded that nitrogen application improved different growth and biomass indices of turf grasses vigorously and 30 gN/m2/month (T3) gave better results as compared to rest of the treatments. Moreover, Dacca grass (V1) showed superiority over Chinese grass (V1) in most cases whereas season's had- mostly similar effects with slight superiority of spring season in some cases.

Efficacy of bordeaux mixture on the vigour of cigarette tobacco
2002
Ayoub, M. | Sharif, M. (Tobacco Research Station, Sahiwal (Pakistan)) | Butt, M.A.
Vigorous crop of the cigarette tobacco was raised after root dipping in the Bordeaux mixture at 2:2:50 and 3:3:50. Similarly significant results were achieved when Bordeaux mixture was sprayed at the ratio of 2:2:50 and 3:3:50. Bordeaux mixture's application in both methods not only increased the cured leaf yield of cigarette tobacco, it also has positive influences on other plant traits like: plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf thickness and leaf size.

The objective of this study was to determine the selectivity of Primestra SC(200 g L-1 of atrazine + 300 g L-1 of metolachlor) on forage sorghum and the efficacy to controlweeds at different rates. The treatments were five rates of Primestra SC (1,5; 3,0; 6,0; and 12,0 L ha-1) with or without Assist (mineral oil) at 1,5 L ha-1, Gesaprim 500 (500 g L-1 ofatrazine) at 4,8 L ha-1, Primóleo (400 g L-1 of atrazine + 300 g L-1 of mineral oil) at 6,0 L ha-1,weedy check plot, and check plot without weed. The herbicides were sprayed 11 days aftersorghum (AG 2002) emergence when broadleaf weeds had two to four leaves and grassesone tiller. Symptoms recovery of herbicide toxicity were detected even when higher rates wereapplied. Fresh weight reduction of 24% was observed in the weedy check plot compared tothe check plot without weed, however dry matter did not show significantly reduction. PrimestraSC at rates higher than 6,0 L ha-1 provided excellent broadleaf weed control (98%). PrimestraSC controled efficiently grasses (94%) at 12 L ha-1. Gesaprim 500 and Primóleo reduceddensity and biomass of broadleaf weeds although no significant differences were detectedbetween the herbicides. Primóleo obtained better grass weed control than Gesaprim 500.Grass weed and total weed control did not differ significantly between Primestra SC andPrimóleo. The addition of Assist to Primestra SC reduced the efficacy of broadleaf weedcontrol indicating a possible antagonism. None of the evaluated herbicides showed efficientgrass weed control except for Primestra SC at 12,0 L ha-1 (94%).

Efficacy of new insecticides from the neonicotinoids group and fipronil on Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say. was tested in a three year period. Experiments were carried out in a locality near Belgrade - Dobanovci. Preparations based on a.i. fipronil, acetamiprid and imidacloprid manifested high initial toxicity, high efficacy and moderate persistence. The test insecticides controled larvae and adults of Colorado Potato Beetle. Results show variations from year to year, but the relative efficacy of the tested insecticides was always similar.
