The prerequisites of formation of the science on the mechanization of labor-intensive processes in animal husbandry on Ukrainian lands in the second half of the nineteenth century on Ukrainian lands were highlighted. It is proved that the development and testing of agricultural machinery was accelerated after the organization of the first branch research and education institutions. Characteristics of the activities and achievements of Akymovska machine-testing station were made. It is found that the first systematic studies on the livestock mechanization were directed to development base on regional fodder production for the practical needs of industry.
