Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation
The theory and practice of rural and international development, particularly in the arena of development collaboration, has changed considerably. Correspondingly, the numbers and diversity of professionals engaged in this field have expanded on a global scale. Against this background, the book provides a wealth of practical information and insights concerning international development. The aim of the book is to enhance the understanding of various critical and emerging issues. What distinguishes it from other books on the subject is that it combines the authors' personal observations with the scholarship and experience of others as reflected in the literature. The book is organized in four parts, following the introduction. The first two chapters focus on the field of international rural development and identify current issues and concerns. Part 2 deals with strategic and policy alternatives and focuses on the design of programmes and projects. The next part addresses implementation and administration, while the final chapter offers a challenging but optimistic view of the future of collaboration in international rural development.
