ANALYSIS OF CONCENTRATION RATIO OF LENTIL MARKTS IN SYRIA

Lentil is a major cash crop which is mainly produced as an export crop, and has the potential of contributing significantly to Syria’s national objective of enhancing food security. The study aimed at assessing the concentration ratio of the Lentil marketing system in Aleppo and Al-Hassaka provinces. Data used for analysis inthis work was collected using a survey during 2013-2012. The results indicated that lentil market at Aleppo and Alhassaka was strong. The CR4 measures of market concentration ratio showed that the top four or 82.57% of the wholesalers were controlled 90. 47% of the lentil market in Aleppo and 31.57% of the wholesaler were controlled 68.42% of the lentil market in Hassaka. And showed clearly that Aleppo market was a strong or tight oligopoly with 80.14 % concentration ratio and showed too that Hassaka was strong too or tight oligopoly with 95.90 % concentration ratio.
