GREENBUG AND SCALD RESISTANCE IN BARLEY LANDRACES FROM ASIA

the differential interaction with genotypes of the host plant characteristic for overwhelming majority of harmful organisms necessitates expanding the genetic diversity of varieties being grown. Landraces of cultivated species of cereals often have a high resistance to diseases and pests. Four hundred and thirty eight barley accessions from eight Asian countries were studied for resistance to two harmful organisms. Scald resistance (causal agent – Rhynchosporium secalis (Oud.) J.J. Davis) have been revealed in 101 accessions, 48 germplasms possessed greenbug (Schizaphis graminum Rond.) resistance, and 14 accessions had resistance to both pathogens. It is shown that the results of the studies on barley gene pool for greenbug and scald resistance confirm the laws on natural immunity of plants to harmful organisms which were stated by N.I. Vavilov.
