Evolution in some African Murinae (Rodentia) assessed by microcomplement fixation of albumin
1995
Watts, C.H.S | Baverstock, P.R. (South Australian Museum, Adelaide (Australia). Evolutionary Biology Unit)
The inter-relationships of fifteen genera of sub-Saharan African murines were studied using microcomplement fixation of albumin as a measure of immunological distance. The data supported a linking of Thallomys and Grammomys, Pelomys, Lemniscomys and Rhabdomys; Hybomys and Stochomys; and placed Dasymys as a sister group to all the others. The general picture is of a monophyletic, rapidly evolving endemic radiation in Africa. Otomys, presently classified in the sub-family Otomyinae, is part of this radiation.
