Studying Spa, the oldest spa resort of Europe, shows the following geo-touristic factors. The existence of the spa sources gave the induction to develop from a small village into a spa resort. The historical geographical development has been largely influenced by the clientele, i.e. a luxury spa resort. The legislation in Belgium concerning the spa resorts had and still has a great impact on the evolution of the cures. Since 1921 Spa Monopole, a daughter of the Group Spadel, has been exploiting the spa resources. The accommodation in Spa is diversified, i.e. hotels, appartments, social tourism, spa centres, children's holiday centres and camp sites. Especially the hotel infrastructure has been characterised by qualitative and quantitative changes. The tourist attractions are in close relationship with the thermalism, e.g. the casino, the trails and sport facilities.
