The definitions used are based mainly on the work of Codex Alimentarius. Compounds remaining in the animal or on the plant after intentional use are defined as residues, in case of contaminants the entry into the food chain is unintentional and uncontrolled. The definitions covered in this section include food, food hygiene, food additives, contaminants, pesticides, pesticide residues, good agricultural practice in the use of pesticides, Codex Maximum Limits for pesticide residues (MRLP), veterinary drugs, residues of veterinary drugs, Codex Maximum Limits for residues of veterinary drugs (MRLVD), good practice in the use of veterinary drugs, processing aids, limit of determination, screening methods, hazard, risk, and risk analysis. The references include the relevant Codex Alimentarius Documents.
