[Lasiommata paramegaera (Huebner, 1824) of the Tyrrhenian isles: a good species (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Satyrinae)] | Lasiommata paramegaera (Huebner, 1824) des iles Tyrrheniennes: une bonne espece (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Satyrinae)

Jutzeler, D.
Two broods of Lasiommata paramegaera originating from the Gennargentu Mountains (Sardinia) and from the island of Capraia (Tuscany, Italy) formed the starting point of studies concerning the preimaginal stages of this taxon. On this instance, several features of the larvae and pupae were found in these L. paramegaera; it showed that it is clearly a distinct species from L. megera. These findings concern the hairs of the larvae, the form of the cremaster and the sheath of proboscis of the pupae. In this context, the attribution of the Balearic ssp. intermedia to the species L. paramegaera, made by De Freina (1991), based upon the male genitalia, is questionable. At the same time it is referable as well as to the further division of L. megera into "Rassenkreise", as proposed by the De Freina, based on the characteristics of male and female genitalia. Moreover, based upon the detailed publication of Biermann and Eitschberger (1996), the distribution of paramegaera, the attempts made by H. Biermann in 1980 to hybridize L. megera and paramegaera, and the synonymy of the name tigelius with the name paramegaera are reviewed.
