Eleven laboratories from the IIRB "Seed quality and analysis" working group took part in a "ring test" to compare the measurement protocols on seed size and shape, in particular the new image analysis methods compared with the classical methods using a vibrating sieve. The results obtained were then compared with the "sowability" measured on the drill testing bench. The participants were also asked to try to,forecast the seed quality that would be obtained with the drill models with which they were familiar. The batches involved in these tests are batches of pelleted seeds marketed in France for the 2000 marketing year and of which samples have been sent to the test participants. Two rapid rotation drills were used to measure the "sowability" on the testing bench.
