The FACT Model. Volume 1
2006
Spofford, C. W.
The FACT (Fast Asymptotic Coherent Transmission) Model is the new Navy Interim Standard Transmission Model for ocean environments which may be treated within the context of a single sound-speed profile and a flat bottom. It is a ray-acoustics model designed for the computation of transmission loss as a function of range and frequency at fixed depth. The classical ray treatment has been augmented with higher order asymptotic correction in the vicinity of caustics, and the phased addition of selected paths experiencing significant, predictable coherence effects. The computer program is fully automated requiring only the specification of the environment and the essential parameters. The first volume describes the physics and mathematics contained in the FACT model as well as comparisons of FACT and normal-mode results.
