This report outlines the development of a pilot workshop on the dynamics of organizational response to advanced technology implementation for the U.S. Shipbuilding industry, the tools that were utilized in executing the workshop design, and the lessons learned. The purpose of the workshop was to provide the process for management to gain a better understanding of the consequences of implementing advanced shipbuilding methods into the shipyard. The process for implementing advanced technology was based on industrial engineering and management science relevant to organizational change. Lecture topics included: "Organizations are Systems: Traditional Management vs. Open Systems Management;" "The Socio-Technical Systems Model," and "Implementing Change and Managing Resistance to Change." In addition to the tutorial lectures, a series of working sessions is outlined. Recommendations are made for future workshops.
