Mediterranean Sea Atlas of Temperature, Salinity, and Oxygen. Profiles and Data from Cruises of R. V. Atlantis and R. V. Chain,
1970
Miller, A. R. | Tchernia, P. | Charnock, H. | McGill, D. A.
It is the purpose of this Atlas to present a series of data consistent in techniques of acquisition, comprehensive in coverage, and representative of the environment during the period of strongest dynamical activity--the winter season. For the last objective the data are not altogether ideal, because one of the cruises, CHAIN 21, took place in October. Data from another, CHAIN 7, in June of 1959, are included to serve as contrast to the predominant winter conditions. The authors, recognizing the paucity of existing data in the Mediterranean during the winter season, have gathered and compiled these data with the hope that their presentation in one volume will serve as a useful background for many research purposes. Towards this end, much of the data are presented in profile form and in color, in order to relate visually one geographic area with another and to furnish perspective to the broad features of the Mediterranean environment.
