Development of an artificial diet for New Zealand spiny lobster Jasus edwardsii aquaculture
2001
Sheppard, James K
The development of an effective artificial ration is a priority for improving theproductivity and economic viability of full-scale commercial aquaculture of the spinylobster J. edwardsii in New Zealand. An artificial diet for the aquaculture of Jasusedwardsii was formulated and tested on juvenile lobsters at the University of Auckland's Leigh Marine Laboratory. Optimal feed pellet physical characteristics, the role of dietary carotenoids in lobster pigmentation, and the potential for chemoattractants as feed supplements to improve consumption rates were also investigated.
