The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers owns and operates about 600 reservoirs located throughout the nation. Reallocation of storage capacity between purposes and other modifications in the operation of existing reservoirs is an ongoing consideration to meet future water supply needs. Conversion of storage capacity from water supply is of particular interest. Recent drought conditions experienced over large sections of the nation have focused attention on optimizing the effectiveness of single reservoirs and reservoir systems for meeting project purposes.
