The goals of this project were a) To isolate marine Caulobacter bacteria and characterize them by physiological and genetic criteria, b) analyze the adhesive holdfast organelles of various isolates via isolation and chemical analysis and cloning of holdfast related genes, and c) develop and characterize the capabilities of marine Caulobacters for molecular genetic manipulation.
