In the period 10 to 27 May tagging experiments on mackerel with internal tags were carried out at some localities south, west and northwest of Ireland, north of Rona and in the area around lattitude 60º N and longitudes 3º—4º W. The taggings were made in order to get information about the mackerel migrations from this western area into the North Sea and the Skagerak. In total 5OOO mackerel were tagged. The highest number, about 80 %, were released off the west coast and southwest coast of Ireland.
