Cephalopods are caught mainly as by-catch inthe bottom trawl and due to the growing demand forcephalopods in the international market, they areexploited all along the Indian coast. In Maharashtra,cephalopods are mainly exploited by shrimp trawlersand stand second in the alll India production. Themain fish landing centres for cephalopods at Mumbaiare New Ferry Wharf (NFW) and Sassoon Docks.Cephalopods contribute 10.6% towards the total fishcatch in Maharashtra (CMFRI, 2009)
