Evaluation of soil sterilization practices by the Horticultural Department, Faculty of Agriculture U.S.T. Kumasi (Ghana)
1980
Wiafe, E.K.
Seeds of hot pepper were used to evaluate a soil sterilisation technique - steam sterilization. The soils were collected and evaluated at different intervals during the process of sterilization. The incidence of disease especially "damping off" and the emergence of weeds were reduced in soils that were sterilized for at least 2 h at a uniform temperature of 100 deg C. Seedlings performed better in pure sterilized loam than in sterilized loam mixed with either sterilized sand or unsterilized sand
