A study of the effect of intercropping sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas] with maize [Zea mays] or cowpea [Vigna] on tuber and grain yields
1988
Alhassan, A.A.
Intercropping of sweet potato with either maize or cowpea had a significant effect on the yield of sweet potato. Yields were higher for sweet potato, than for sweet potato intercropped with maize or cowpea, reduction in yield being higher in the sweet potato/cowpea intercrop than in sweet potato/maize intercrop. Sole sweet potato gave tuber yields of 13.9 t and 19.3 t/ha for on-the-ridge and in-the-furrow maize intercrops respectively. For cowpea intercrop, yields were 9.3 and 10.7 t/ha respectively
