Studies of the growth rate and refertilization of transplant lettuce in Ghana.

Experiments with transplant lettuce were conducted to determine its growth rate and to ascertain the most suitable time for side-dressing. The Al variety was used. Although growth was slow in the initial stages, there was a sudden rapid increase in the 14-day period before first harvest. It has been established that side-dressing transplant lettuce with nitrogen 18 days before first harvest is highly beneficial. For both transplant and direct-seeded lettuce it is recommended that side-dressing should be done 3 weeks before first harvest. Original scientific paper. Received 22 Iul 68; revised 6 Ian.
