Soaking the seeds 12 hours before planting not only give the seeds a head start in germination but also facilitated separation and hill dropping in the planting operation. A locally designed cotton planter patterned after the corn planter is a very useful tool in planting. Plots planted with the use of manual planter had more uniform hill spacing and uniform stand. Better still, using the planter reduced the amount of time required to plant a hectare of field from 11 to 7 man-days compared hand planting method.
