Variability in chromosome number was observed in the hybrids. Three chromosome numbers were noted; 2n = 63, 2n = 88 and 2n = 100 to 108. Hybrids with the lower chromosome number resemble the spontaneum parent (SES 84 A with 2n = 96) while those with high chromosome number resemble the officinarum parent (Cana Azul with 2n = 102 to 106).
