The effect of the direction of radicle on the germination of sal (Shorea robusta, Gaertn. f.) seed was studied. Collected seeds were sown in plastic seives in three different directions, viz., upward, horizontal and downward. The percentage of germination was higher in the upward and horizontal directions in comparison to the downward direction. Variation in germination was observed between the trees of the same location as well as between the trees of different locations.
