Effect of tillage and pre-plant herbicide treatment on the efficiency of weed control and grain yield of transplanted rice [Philippines]
1979
Castroverde, Y.L. | Mabbayad, B.B.
Findings of the study showed that the tillage practices and pre-plant herbicide treatments have no significant differences in their effects on number of panicles/hill, percentage of unfilled grains, 100-grain weight, and weed population. Only grain yield, number of filled grain and dry weight of weed species were found to be significantly affected by the tillage practices and herbicide treatments. The highest mean yield was obtained from the minimal tillage of one plowing and one harrowing with split application of dalapon at 2.5 kg a.i./ha. each followed by paraquat at 0.5 kg a.i./ha 5 days after with subsequent 5 days blooding. The mean yield from the conventional tillage ranked second. The lowest mean yield was obtained from the zero-tilled plots with the same pre-plant herbicide.
